It began with Peace Piece—Bill Evans tracing the shape of silence on the piano. A slow, meditative unfolding. Each note feels like it’s holding its breath, lingering just a moment longer than it needs to, inviting you to step into the stillness.

That kind of stillness has always moved me. It doesn’t shout. It doesn’t demand attention. It just waits—and somehow says more in that waiting than words ever could.

Then I found myself haunted by another piece: What Was I Made For from Barbie. A song that feels just as fragile, just as searching. It’s soft, delicate, nearly whispered—but underneath, there’s this ache. A quiet unraveling. A kind of vulnerability that asks not for answers, but for space to feel.

At some point, I realized they were both circling the same question in different ways:
Who am I beneath the surface? When the lights are off, when the roles fall away, what’s left of me?

This track is my attempt to bring those two voices into conversation. Jazz and pop. Past and present. A searching improvisation wrapped around a modern melody of doubt and longing.

I didn’t want to over-produce it. I wanted it to feel like a single breath—soft, honest, almost hesitant. I layered in textures that felt like memory: faint reverb, slow echoes, distant harmonies that barely show their faces. It’s not about perfection. It’s about presence.

Sometimes, when I play, I’m not trying to impress—I’m just trying to understand something.
This is one of those moments.

This is one of Frederic Chopin's most beautiful Etudes. It was written as an Etude which from the native French translates to "exercise" or "study." But it's more than just a study in lyricism or technique. It's also a piece that is worthy of being performed by the greatest of pianists in the most grand of concert halls. The lyrical first section teaches the pianist to shape phrases and to play with an elegant touch and rubato and the middle section teaches many lessons in playing with proper technique, being able to scale large jumps with accuracy and still try to be musical. This is a piece that is very work intensive and requires a lot of practice but it's stunning beautiful and lyricism make every moment of effort worth it.
