For our 25th mix we're welcoming Amsterdam based selector DJ Tracksuit, who's supplied an hour and a half of beautiful world rhythms.

We've known Tim for a few years, having linked up previously when he did a mix for our 24 hour Live For Love fundraiser livestream during lockdown. His music taste and knowledge runs seriously deep, and is a DJ we're consistently blown away by. This mix is no different, and shows off his style and versatility.

DJ Tracksuit says: "I’ve been wanting to record this mix for a while but had troubles with turntables, tonearms, needles and in general, a very busy 2022. The result is a full vinyl mix of (mostly) psychedelic and percussive grooves from some of my favourite musical countries (Guadeloupe, Cape Verde & Haiti). Starting at 75 or so BPM all the way up to well over double that in a bit less than an hour and a half. I can imagine an Apricot Ballroom party have a similar (but more stretched out) progression! Protest music, slow & fast Gwo Ka or Zouk, Compas, Carnaval music. It’s all in there, including some of my all time favourite songs.  Katerina is a Finnish Bulgarian artist. It’s hard to choose where to start with her immense background and experience, how about that she runs labels Émotsiya and Kotarak, releasing music from the likes of Sansibar, djrubio and Exploited Body. Or that she’s of course an active touring DJ with experience from the biggest clubs in the world, to the most underground dens in Helsinki. Hah, almost forgot that to top it all of she’s a producer with releases on labels such as Running Back, Cómeme, Hivern Discs, Tigersushi and Rhythm Section…. So yeah, try beating that. 

 Katerina pulls from natural textures and ambient as much as G-Funk in her music, making for a truly idiosyncratic style where she finds the somewhat impossible balance between eclecticism and a well-thought-out thread.  

This mentioned balance is evident in her mix for this series. Grab a note pad, pencil and sit down. Class is in session, and Katerina is the teacher for the next hour.

🐱 Our second Tiger Tape of the month is a unique take from our usual musical offerings. Gabriele brings her signature blend of deep, minimalistic, and enthralling music to this mix.

Originally from Lithuania and now based in Berlin, Gabriele had her first encounter with music at an early age. Dance, in particular, had a profound impact on her, becoming the catalyst for her active involvement in the electronic music scene during her late teenage years. Transitioning from being a dance and music enthusiast to running a small club in Klaipeda, she went on to perform at renowned venues like 1986 Gallery and Ole Festival, eventually becoming a resident DJ at Radio Vilnius.

Over the years, Gabriele's sound has undergone an evolution, but it has consistently maintained a deep and immersive quality that she ardently seeks in every track she selects.
