Synapse (2020)
Synapse is the fifth work completed as part of the Der Industriepalast suite, and is based upon Fritz Kahn’s infographic titled ‘Is the nervous system an electrical system?” (1939). The infographic represents the function of a synapse – the structure that permits a neuron to pass an electrical or chemical signal to another neuron or target cell. In his infographic, Kahn compares the synapse to an electrical generator– highly appropriate given the function of synapses in generating electricity, and transporting it around the body through neurotransmission.

Louise Rossiter is an electroacoustic composer and performer with particular expertise in multi-channel composition, sound diffusion, and interpretation. My research interests lie in expectation, silence and response to visual stimuli in acousmatic music. As a composer, my music has been performed and broadcast around the world and recognised in several international competitions. I have also  undertaken a number of commissions and residencies, periods of study and fieldwork abroad.

Hendiduras Friccionantes (2020), in english meaning: Frictional or Scratching Crevices, is inspired by a recurrent phenomenon found in forests, called "Crown Shyness".
This is observed in some tree species, in which the crowns of fully stocked trees do not touch each other, forming channel-like gaps. 
The composition ventures mainly into the representation of the abstract interaction between the trees, which occurs on an underground level.  How communication between the trees unfolds is a complex, abstruse system that we yet don't fully grasp. The tittle of the piece is therefore, some kind of irony in itself: we witness concrete gaps that are a consequence of some kind of unseen and unexplained connection. 
The composition combines very delicate sounds with others full of texture and energy. The resulting atmosphere strives to balance these different sounds, to maintain a fluidity in the instrumental interaction, as well as to sustain a certain lightness despite its density.
