“The validity effect is the increase in perceived validity of repeated statements”

Drawing its inspiration from the psychological concept of the same name, ‘Validity Effect’ explores repeated instrumentation, drums and 303 sequencing switched up across all four tracks to deliver a varied, club-ready release. ‘Bounce in My Mind’, the 808 driven dancefloor weapon that opens the EP, sees Akumen deliver a hypnotic stomper rife with rhythm. The fast paced, dubby synths of ‘Processing Fluency’ follows with similar energy with an added layer of acid sprinkled on top before the EP’s title track drops it down a notch with fast paced, distorted synth lines over rolling snares. To close out the EP Akumen takes us back to acid town with a 303 mix of ‘Validity Effect’, managing to create a culmination of the rest of the EP’s tonal qualities in what is set to be a certified dancefloor mover.

Founded in 2018 in Mexico, Bonkers is now based in the Old Continent, in Barcelona to be more precise. The prolific Latino imprint celebrates its fifth anniversary by bringing to life “Year V”, an eight-cut compilation featuring some of the most interesting names amid the so-called Indie Dance/Dark Disco scene: Hailing from various corners of this doomed little blue dot of ours, Nick Hanzo (SXDNS065) & Heidenreich (SXDNS142) Feat. Das Molekuel, JGR & Yahaira, Lebollet, Ledi Cannit, Kubebe, Ludviq & Mandruvá, Yotam Russo, and Anastasia Zems (SXDNS169) came up with some top-notch stuff for the celebratory VA. 

The cover art is called “Lost Garden” by Michael Rozen. His paintings focus on raising awareness to the impacts on the ecosystems provoked by the parasite species that rules the planet.

The track we were solicited to premiere brings Anastasia at her very best! “Shadow Theatre” offers the perfect balance between darkness and danceability delivered by a strength-meets-groovy formula and a pinch of acid, resulting in a sharp and vivid dance-floor-filler theme.

A.B. HABIBI is the artist name of Edinburgh-based Aymen Bensaad. A passionate music maker, Aymen has grown up in Leith, honing his sound and sharing formative experiences alongside a wave of talented artists he is proud to call friends and collaborators. He shares a studio (The Dungeon) and more with close comrades Young Fathers and Callum Easter, and his sound is naturally reflective of the environment, instruments, and sessions they all share. After releasing the banger “Keep It Strong” one year ago, Patricio Diaz is back with his very first release.

The eponym track “Nights Lights” is a pure track mixing Trance and Italo influences.
An ode to gathering and smiling on the dancefloor.

“Walking At Dawn”, always with a trance touch, a little faster, is the perfect track to let you go. By the way, the track groove seems straight out of a 80s road movie.
 
ROTCIV signs here a mental, dark, almost disturbing remix.
But faithful to its origins, he brings an undeniable disco side too.
A transcendental music for the robots !

To close the strong release, Theo Scuera brings to “Night Lights” a more progressive 90s touch. Music to be experienced only by tapping your feet loudly and jumping on the dancefloor.
