Beast from the east: name given to an extreme winter storm experienced in the UK. Melting Arctic sea ice fuelled the 'Beast from the East', which brought freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall to the UK in February 2018. The ice was and is melting because of rising greenhouse gas emissions, which is fuelling climate change.
