Bun The Grid catapults into Fall with its second North American signing, Brooklyn’s Doctor Jeep. After several years exploring the West Coast festival halftime sound, Jeep returns to his love of Bristolian polyrhythmic club tools.

“Vault of Glass” channels underwater atmospherics in a dark, broken- beat, warehouse style, while collaborator and tour partner Fixate joins the fray on “Dorado” - summoning disembodied voices and frantic breakbeats to hypnotize late-night ravers. Switching the energy with a modern DnB-meets-Dancehall vibe, “Emergency Broadcast Test” features Washington DC’s Cirrus.

On the flip, two remixes add an uptempo flavour to “Vault of Glass”: hyper-active juke from London’s Hyroglifics, and a punishingly-heavy hip hop twist from Calgary-via-Detroit veteran Sinistarr.

Unchained Mix Series 018 by Doctor Jeep (US)

It is our absolute pride and joy here at threethousand.co.uk to continuously look into the ever expanding realms of bass music and all of its extended avenues. We have seen an absolute explosion of experimental flavours work their way onto the scene over the past few years, with lots of up and coming projects taking some heavy influence from techno and other surrounding areas. It's an exciting sub-genre of bass music, into which we find ourselves diving today. 

As always, we remain extremely selective with the tracks we offer up for premiere, which is why we are so excited to get into today's exploration as we welcome the wonderful Bulu back to the page. Having previously premiered an awesome collaboration between himself and Etch last year, we were thrilled to see that he has decided to start up his own imprint, taking the title: Bulu Sound. It's an exciting time for all involved and we were given the fantastic job of checking out the release a little early. 

Consisting of three unique creations, delving across previously unexplored bridges between breaks and techno, we unearth a set of absolute gems, kicking off with the title track 'Pinball'. Through a selection of well oiled drum influxes and darkened, moody background textures, this one kicks us off with an absolute storm.

This is then followed up 'Shutup', with throws the release down a completely different avenue altogether as 160BPM sounding rhythms unleash an array of blippy synthesizer smacks and industrial drum chops, leaving destruction in their wake. Finally, we finish off with the again speedy drum designs of 'Impact', which combines warbling LFO manouvres with sparse, distant drum licks, giving this one a fantastic sense of space and dread.

Representing China, both RADIAX and 3ASIC reinterpret two of the label’s biggest tunes by OAKK and HØST - resonating with elements of rolling DNB, Jump Up, Juke and Hardcore.  From the UK, WHINEY, ROHAAN, HØST and ARKAIK deliver various mutations of grit - spanning minimal, glitch, halftime and liquid. Continuing to explore fertile new ground, contributors from Europe also exhibit their rich diversity in all things electronic. From modular wubs to halftime gems to left-field bangers WAS A BE, FRACTALE, BLACK BARREL, KABUKI and SUPB YAO probe fresh hybrid terrain. Stateside, DOCTOR JEEP continues his unfolding journey into Drum’n’Bass whilst SINISTARR meditates firmly on his Detroit roots.

In this premiere we present Unchained remix comp winner YOOFEE offering his outstanding take on "Backwitda".

As we commence a brand new week of content here at threethousand.co.uk, we are again out on the hunt for exciting new music to both report on and showcase via this website of ours, which continues to grow in both populairty and importance to those hunting new music alongside us. The last few weeks have seen us exploring music across much wider scale within the bass music spectrum, with today's project looking to continue the pattern as we see Bun The Grid land once again on our horizon. It's been a brief minute since we last caught up with the BTG crew, so thought what better way to catch up that by getting involved with an official from their latest drop 'BTG007'.

As a label imprint, Bun The Grid have gained quite the reputation for exploring the weird and wonderful spectrums off bass music, constantly looking for a new angle or interesting rhythmic approach within the music they release, with every drop being more intricate and unexpected than the last. An artist that fits perfectly into that sonic mantra is TMSV, one of the most forward thinking and out there producers we could name, who here supplies a wavy four track experiment, again showcasing just how exciting and unusual bass music can be. 

We are super excited to be getting involved with the promotional campaign for this one as we arrive with an exclusive premiere of track 3, which takes the title 'Mountain'. This one is a futurstic stepper, with crunchy half time rhythms being doused in moogy synth double ups and a crackling atmospheric design behind, allowing the composition to naturally breathe and expand at will. It's a pretty stunning piece of work to say the least, giving us a real good look at what to expect from the rest of the EP.

OUT TOMORROW! Bun The Grid returns for Round 007 with this deadly concoction courtesy of TMSV with remix’s from A.Fruit aka Russia’s Most Wanted and BTG’s Head Honcho Bulu. The release fully spans BTG’s exploratory approach to music, a no-holds barred aesthetic. Today we are premiering Bulu’s Remix of Mountain (wait here), sticking true to the labels style this remix has flipped the original right on its head and cranked the tempo +30bpm. This track combines styles you wouldnt expect, fusing jump up / foghorn style bass’s with broken beat halftime grooves, ominous effects and random bursts of amens. I love when producers reference different styles and join the dots between them to create something instantly recognisable/enjoyable but also
unique and refreshing. Legend has it Bulu created these rare refined foghorns in the london underground network, repeatedly echo-ing TMSV’s original bass’s between stations, until they had soaked up that dirty UK flavour and grit. Over the course of the last two years or so, we have built up a tight network of collaborators and promotional pluggers, via which we are able to keep an eye on near enough the entirety of underground dance music here in the UK. This means we can see just how experimental the underground side of dance music is becoming and we are loving every single second of it. Today, we are again linking up with the one and only Bulu, a producer whose sound seems to just breathe originality.
