04. Summertime

Some of you may know or guess that the event series LE FLAH takes its name from the rather popular and well known song Leflaur Leflah Eshkoshka by Heltah Skeltah / Fab 5.

This song and its sample source – Catalyst’s Uzuri – are always played at the event LE FLAH right after the act finished the live set – our own little tradition.

Preparing for LE FLAH’s 10th edition, the small-scale festival LE FLAH FEST in June 2014, we asked all the fest’s acts as well as all acts from the previous 9 editions to compose a beat out of the same sample source, Catalyst’s Uzuri. Enjoying the vibe and the surprising variety of the outcome, we keep asking our guests to provide such a beat for every session – this is one of the resulting beats, brought to you by KILL EMIL!

Chillum Trio started out as a collective of like minded musicians in 2002, however, after releasing an album together (which was supported by the likes of Laurent Garnier) the project slowly became the solo act of founding recording producer, Geza Szekeres. At that time he discovered West-African music, latin jazz and the universe of soul and funk, these new directions have been shaping his musical evolution eversince. In 2014 he turned out as one of the winners of Gilles Peterson’s Havana Cultura remix contest that gave him the opportunity to travel to Havana and record music with the creme of the Cuban jazz scene. One of his songs recorded in this session got released on Brownswood Recordings compilations Havana Cultura Mix and Havana Cultura Anthology. Budabeats Records is more than proud to release Chillum Trio’s first ever 12” single called Cosmotropica with two dancefloor friendly tracks mixing broken afro-house with tropical and cosmic influences. 
Release date: December 2017, limited to 500 hand-numbered copies.

Ruido Selecto es un proyecto de música electrónica que adopta ritmos jamaiquinos y tropicales como materia prima de su sonido, en esencia la música negra es un claro referente y por esta razón su estilo sonoro incita a la danza y al baile como se refleja en sus producciones y presentaciones en vivo a través de un poderoso live act. El proyecto es creado por Juan Esteban Herrera, guitarrista, explorador sonoro y productor musical de la ciudad de Medellín - Colombia.

Acerca de Piratería Caribeña y Contrabando

Es un mix con música original pensando en la conexión Africa - Caribe, inspirado en los barcos de la diaspora que alguna vez trajeron consigo la esclavitud pero que también trajeron el ritmo, nuevas músicas y la cultura del trueque a gran escala a lo largo del continente americano. 

El mix fue grabado en formato live set en el cual se emplearon sintetizadores, máquinas de ritmo y un sampling frenético, todo esto bajo una estética dub, el resultado suena a selva tropical con patrones rítmicos ancestrales, un viaje chamánico que evoca también la verbena del caribe colombiano con lineas acidas de un bajo sintetizado.

About Piratería Caribeña y Contrabando:

It is a mix with original music thinking about the Africa - Caribbean connection, inspired by the diaspora boats that once brought slavery but also brought the rhythm, new music and the culture of large scale barter along the continent. American.

The mix was recorded in live set format in which synthesizers, rhythm machines and a frenetic sampling were used, all this under a dub aesthetic, the result sounds like tropical jungle with ancestral rhythmic patterns, a shamanic journey that also evokes the verbena of the Colombian Caribbean with acid lines of a synthesized bass.
