Fun is the name of the game when Tony Y Not's in charge. The German-born, Brooklyn-based DJ and producer lives and breathes the mantra that you shouldn't take yourself too seriously - you'll find no chin stroking round here we assure you.

Her musical selections are evidence of that. Leaning towards cosmic synths, dark rhythms and acid-laced disco, her sets navigate all kinds of grooves while drawing inspiration from the sounds associated with the places and spaces she's lived.

A co-founder of NYC club night Front Left, which concerns itself with artists treading similar sonic terrain, and a member of Collective BAE, she's on a mission to nurture and foster connections in the world of music and on the dance floor.

The sounds that inform her DJ sets also filter into her own productions, which have so far been released on the likes of Trampoliner, Me Me Me, NEIN and Critical Monday. Her latest production came as part of Ombra International's recent VA, alongside other offerings from Rees, Kimshies, Endrik Schroeder and H.L.M., so in celebration of the release we asked her to give us a taste of what Tony Y Not is all about.

Synth excursions drive her mix forward, while she makes pitstops at chugging indie disco and cosmic Italo-tinged sounds along the way...

The legend of South America's music is one of vibrant rhythms, passionate melodies, and diverse cultural influences. It's is a celebration of life. The music is also shaped by its indigenous roots, with traditional instruments like the charango, quena, and bombo adding unique textures to it. 
It is said that the music originated from the indigenous people of the Andes, who used it as a way to express their culture and traditions. The legend goes that the music was inspired by the natural sounds of the Andean landscape, including the wind, the rain, and the flowing rivers.

One of the most famous Andean instruments is the pan flute, which is said to have been created by the god Wiracocha. According to legend, Wiracocha made the first pan flute out of the bones of his dead children, and the music that came from it was so beautiful that it could bring the dead back to life.

Today, Andean music is still celebrated and enjoyed throughout South America and beyond. Its haunting melodies and intricate rhythms continue to captivate listeners and serve as a reminder of the rich cultural heritage of the Andean people. Especially because the music continues to thrive, with new generations of artists blending traditional sounds with modern influences to create exciting new styles. Landing back in Germany, my heart and spirit are asking directly again for South and Central America. So I felt I have to share the beautiful vibe of the music which inspired me a lot while traveling through so many countries. It's a beautiful downtempo journey which I hope will sweeten up your upcoming summer! Enjoy the sun on your skin, move your hips or just relax in your hammock, drinking a fresh coconut, smelling the unique copal or palo santo - a reminder for the magnificent • leyenda • of these sacred lands.

Kyle was this guy who I found at an open mic poetry night and he did this unbelievably beautiful thing about meeting this girl for the first time. Describing the bar as tho it was like a war zone of like absolute chaos. The line ‘in this smoking chaos our shoulder blades kissed’ is as close to perfection as 8 words can get.
Kyle was also then super sweet about it when I told him I’d re pitched him into a whole damn song lol 😬🙏🤗🙏
