For the next episode of SALON we’ve invited Greek DJ and producer VÅGH. The last couple of years he has been focused on shaping his disctinctive sound while keeping a genuine artistic approach. This hard work paid off as he managed to put out music on labels such as Dynamic Reflection, Casanova Bar Berlin and Suara.

For his podcast for SALON he decided to start off with an atmospheric and minimalistic approach focused on welcoming the listener and guiding their mindset into the right direction. Once the direction is set the rhythm intensifies and the listener is drawn deep into mind bending sounds. Combining this with a stomping low end one can be certain of unleashing that inner fire.

Vegim's journey into the underground began in the mid 90's. At first, music was just a hobby. Once he began collecting records his obsession grew stronger and he invested in his first pieces of music equipment. 1998 was the year Vegim became a full time slave to the underground. He rapidly developed his skills as a DJ and in his Production. The desire to tell his story through music took over and Vegim has never looked back. Earliest experiments in the studio go 
back to around 2002. Today, Vegim is recognized as one of Techno's most influential artists. Not only a skilled DJ/Producer but also a graphics designer and coneptionalist that has a style unlike any other. He has released his own tracks and done countless remixes for many of the best known labels in the Techno realm. His tracks and remixes are well supported by dj’s like: Dave Clarke, Laurent Garnier, Chris Liebing, Ben Klock, MARCEL DETTMANN, Dax J, Slam and many more.

DifferentSound invites Vegim / Podcast #068

Jeroen van der Want also known as RON L, is a Dutch DJ based in Gouda, The Netherlands and a resident of the Rotterdam-based organization Embodiment. 

After years of actively experiencing the Dutch techno scene, Jeroen was becoming more and more drawn to that world by the long-lasting feelings of fulfilment and belonging that he experienced after every event. His love and passion for the music made him take the next steps into starting his journey as a DJ.

Inspired by artists like Speedy J, Luke Slater, Function, and labels like Dynamic Reflection, Pole Group and Illegal Alien Records, RON L has crafted a powerful blend of driving, loopy and hypnotic sounds, which is often best experienced during the peak time of the night. Nowadays, Jeroen is using the Pioneer DDJ-1000 controller, where he has the chance to work with 3 or 4 decks and express himself even better through complex intense atmospheres.
So far Jeroen had the chance to play for the Amsterdam-based Orphic crew, Frameworks in his hometown Gouda and Embodiment in Rotterdam alongside Rene Wise and Somewhen. 

To Jeroen being a resident of Embodiment means that he is in a trust-worthy environment, where mutual respect is a ground rule, and he feels supported to grow musically and push his limits, which in turn will allow him to give back to the community by sharing his knowledge. In the future, he hopes to get the chance to perform more all around the Netherlands, but also internationally.

RON L is part of Embodiment, an organization that focusses on different spectrums of electronic music and is originally based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. For the past few get-togethers they set foot in Amsterdam to further explore the Dutch scene and to inspire the participants with a challenging sound.

With this recording RON L wanted to translate the past and the present into a set. DJ-ing for over 5 years he came in contact with several styles within electronic music and RON L thought this was a great moment to dig deeper into his music collection to create a trip down memory lane to build an emotional bond with the audience while also remaining in the present using some recent releases.

We’re proud to hear our residents grow despite the current situation. Everyone is coping with these times in their own way and for RON L this includes finding comfort in other music genres. By broadening his musical horizon he manages to keep himself inspired and deliver the drive and energy he’s known for so well.

In this set RON L aimed to translate the energy he would provide in a peak-time club experience. By using dark hypnotic soundscapes in combination with lots of energetic drive he manages to mesmerize the dancefloor and give them a dynamic experience. He aims to create an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect where the listener can fully let go and indulge in the moment. This magical dancefloor experience is something we all miss a lot, but thanks to RON L we have some new perspective on what to expect once the sound systems are fired up again.
