Disconnecting The Dots w/ Etch - May 2023

In recent years Ruby St. James has become a regular performer on the burlesque scene both in the UK and internationally. For her first solo musical release she teams up with London based producer Bulu to create the melodic yet weighty Own The Night. 
 
After receiving a folder of instrumentals from Bulu which contained an unassuming bounce from an old project entitled “Bloopy” Ruby used her unique song writing ability to take the track to a place that only she could. The ominous intro leads into a story of love in a club that the listener is left to perceive however they see fit. Intriguing lyrics and layered vocals coupled with deep distorted baselines, glitchy percussion and Bulu’s synthetic bloops that gave the original project it’s title make for a unique track that is a forceful collision of Ruby’s and Bulu’s musical styles. 
 
Own The Night is accompanied by a music video which is compelling in its minimalist nature, a captivating showcase of Ruby St. James’, the burlesque songstress.

Bulu’s debut studio album cuckoo’s nest aims to break barriers. Despite most of Bulu’s releases to date being in the realms of drum and bass this album is not restricted by genre or tempo and shows the extent Bulu's versatility as a producer.
Starting out at 100 BPM and finishing at 200 BPM, cuckoo’s nest is the product of an idea that despite technological advances opening up the doors of creativity these advances have created formulaic genre defined walls from which Bulu attempts to break free.
Rich melodic content, crisp percussion, thick bass lines, finely tuned synth variations, vocal features from renowned D&B MC Visionobi and Burlesque songstress Ruby St James and overall razor sharp production create an immersive listening experience.
