Moving from São Paulo to London 11 years ago, Brazilian producer S.P.Y didn't take long to assert his arrival to the UK's d'n'b scene, releasing on Metalheadz in 2005. 

Later releasing on some of the genre's finest labels, including Soul:r, Innerground and Hospital Records, Carlos Lima has shown his innate production ability with tracks like 'By Your Side' and heavenly remixes of Submotion Orchestra's 'All Yours' and Zero 7's 'In The Waiting Line'.

It's been three years since founding UVB-76 member, Pessimist put out a Drum & Bass release. The last time you could find a 170 track by Jabs was back in 2017 for his critically acclaimed self-titled debut album released on Blackest Ever Black. So we present in 2019, the Burundanga EP for UVB-76, which has been destroying dance floors across the planet.

The Burundanga EP consists of three Drum & Bass cuts. Think Ruffhouse meets tribal shamanism, gutter breaks with amazonian field recordings and thick atmosphere, you'll feel like you've been spiked by some ritualistic witch doctor. Also included within the four track EP is the long awaited Paian remix by Downwards Records and CUB affiliate, Simon Shreeve aka Mønic & Kryptic Minds, taken from Jabs's debut EP for The Buzzer. Trust us when we say this is not for the faint hearted, we're truly excited to have Pessimist back on the label with these four vintage, signature Pess, killer cuts.

‘S.L.F. Versions’ – a set of cutting-edge radical reworks from Aïsha Devi’s widely-praised EP ‘S.L.F.’

Hotly-tipped Chinese scene stalwart 33EMYBW delivers a thunderous percussion-heavy take on ‘Two Serpents’, and rising Indonesian duo Gabber Modus Operandi overhaul ‘Uupar Theory’ with pummelling kick drums encircling frenzied, swirling synths.

Nordic maverick Varg adds jungle breaks and pitched-down crunch to Devi’s pitched-up ethereal voice, whilst lauded JA collective Equiknoxx Music‘s vibey avant-dancehall version gives shout-outs to Devi from vocalists Gavsborg and Shanique Marie.

In addition to acclaim gained for ’S.L.F.’, over the summer Devi toured extensively, performing at some of the world’s most prestigious and forward-thinking events. At Dark Mofo x Atonal in Hobart, Australia she premiered her new AV show ‘∞E=TRv’ – an innovative collaboration with visual artist MFO using light in space and reflective surfaces. 

Centred around Devi’s transcendence/continuum energy formula and inspired by Planck’s Constant in physics, these special shows have wowed and inspired, as have AV events staged with Emile Barret, and Devi’s solo shows - where audio takes centre stage.

The first edition entitled 'Initial Conditions' assembles with DB1’s opening redefinition of form & function in Late Night; a journey of spatial exploration and intricate drum work arranged for polyrhythmic bitempo hybrid territory, palpating into a spectrum-rich environment top-dressed with scything layers of percussion.

Tone, DB1’s beatless secondary offering introduces fluid, localised doses of low frequency synth work, developing into an exploration inside rich, vivid arrays of convoluted space.

Vinyl copies of Initial Conditions include 10 infinite locked-groove loops assembled by DB1 himself, covering 1 bar percussion arrangements as well as ambience and drone/noise terrain. These additions aim to channel functionality and provide creative tools for performance.

Flip over to uncover the masterful work of DYL in YDNTKNW: a lesson in dynamics, donning swathes of industrial elasticity yet solidifying itself as a functional dancefloor-worthy exercise. Rip-roaring waveforms are barely suspended by the tension of cables buckling under pressure.

Paragon delivers via Molt’s first edition; 'Black Celebration (Stone Cold)': a controlled descent into insanity in the form of textured sample destruction. Pitch bent, brash and broken; Paragon’s drunken drum patterns dissolve into redux noise and drum confusion, conjuring a sleep paralysis inducing bed of imagery, advancing into a spiral of unconscious cacophony. The piece finalises as a crescendo of locked-loop noise.

Astrophonica welcomes veteran producer dgoHn to the family. Through releasing music over the past decade, dgoHn aka John Cunnane has acquired a cult following and gained DJ support from figure heads like Thom Yorke, Tom Ravenscroft and Aphex Twin. 
 
2009 saw Rephlex Records release his collaborative album ‘Some Shit Saaink’ with fellow drumcunt Macc. Sitting somewhere between Jungle, Drumfunk, Experimental Jazz and brutal sub bass, dgoHn’s music is intense in both mania and serenity. 
 
“dgoHn has long since been one of my favourite producers in the left-field jungle or ‘drumfunk’ world. He has a knack of applying brain melting beat science without ever interrupting the groove and rhythm of the track. It’s something that few people can do, and he seems to effortlessly. There’s also a certain sadness and melancholy to his chords and fleeting melodies, which creates a beautiful contrast to the frantic drum madness. ‘Sporks’ takes the 160bpm half time tempo that has become synonymous with the label and throttles full speed into a driving bongo led rush of euphoric pads and deadly sub bass. Have you ever danced with a murderer?
 
‘Dolorous Dick’ead’ is an explosion of paradoxical emotions where hyperenergetic Jungle breaks and introverted chords meet to create an intense journey through a tape saturated landscape.
 
‘Acacia Road’ continues the modern 160bpm theme, but diverts into a trance like state with meditative pads and metronome-like poly rhythmic percussion as familiar breaks are elevated towards enlightenment. 
 
In ‘Lost and Found’, a wonderfully crusty break is slowly polished by wistful pads to wipe away the tears before the Amen edits are slowly uncovered to reveal a hidden shiny metallic underlay. Blinding.

As I work through them in no particular order I’ll put them up here for download.
Remember the sound quality isn’t great as they were all recorded through a mixer with no EQ and committed to cassette on a shabby home stereo…But what the hell, it’s that authentic 90s sound through and through.
