Q. What sounds or feelings did you draw upon when gathering inspiration for this mix, and what listening environments could you imagine it being best enjoyed in?

A. Sam: would be amiss not to say deepness – hard to really say what that means, though. Music played deep into the party, everyone on molly, the sound system is the one from Labyrinth, and it’s in Yarra Bend. 

A. Jack: Yeah much the same as Sam, we share a mutual love for deepness albeit in a slightly different way. I hope it will be a bit of an all hours mix for cooking, eating, driving or for the hours after etc.

Q. Are there any records in the mix that you were especially excited to share, and what is it about these songs that resonate with you so much?

A. Sam: Many resonate, but the Baby Ford track toward the beginning sums up the whole deepness-being-difficult-to-describe thing, for me at least. David Alvarado does that to me as well – he features a fair bit here. 

A. Jack: there have been many tunes I would've loved to include - but without much defined planning we got to this mix one afternoon. Bit of a mish mash of different deepish tunes from over the years, moving around home base which is good old house music. Nothing too serious.

Q. You’ve both been involved in facilitating a myriad of great underground parties in Melbourne over the last decade from outdoor raves to basement club nights, Jack, tell us about your latest endeavour Reasons and how that fits into the music community focussed party ethos?

A. Jack: Reasons came about as a bit of an evolution from just running parties, toward something that connects and platforms the people around me and incorporates music, food and art.. After spending time overseas, I felt a strong pull to bridge those worlds, and to bring some of those ideas we encountered abroad back home.  

Q. I know you’ve both been working hard on various studio projects both solo and collaboratively, tell us about the latest endeavours, and what sounds are you enjoying exploring whilst working together?

A. Sam: Making music together has always come naturally, finishing tracks less so. Plans mostly go out the window once we start, but I feel like we’ve always converged on a distinct feeling without having to explicitly voice. I like exploring all sounds with Neil, but I guess we’ve always tended to steer toward some kind of 90s nostalgia. The final track in the mix is a useful example.

A. Jack: We’re both always making music in some form, sometimes with more focus than others, at least for me. We’ve always got a few bits in the works I guess (including the last track in the mix), but as Sam said, finishing things together doesn't always happen... Lately, I’ve been trying to be a bit more deliberate with what I am making. Definitely a few releases to come in the next 6 months, as well as a new non-dance music project.

Live recording from my first ever set at Sisyphos, specifically the mighty Wintergarten. Recorded on the 24/10/2025.

Picture this… I’ve just arrived in Berlin a couple of hours ago, after 15 years since the last time, and tonight I have my first ever gig in the city, in one of the most emblematic clubs: Sisyphos. To be more specific, the Wintergarten.
I’ve done this thousands of times, but I still feel nervous like it’s the first one. I’ve heard so much about that dance floor, vibrant and special, probably unique… so I get there early.

They show me around, a mini tour of the club (which feels like being at a festival), all their dance floors and the little tricks hidden in every room.

That was me… and even though I had to do the opening set of a 4 day party, I was shitting in my pants.

“Tommy, you got this. It’s probably gonna be chilled for the first couple of hours and you’ll have a bit of a d-floor happening by the end of your set.”

Nope. Fifteen minutes in and the place is getting busy… thirty minutes in and it’s packed. And what’s even better, no one is fooling around: they arrive, they dance. No talking. No BS.

The rest was probably one of the funniest nights of my life. Room full, everyone dancing, crazy people like only Berlin has.. and the SOUND SYSTEM!! My goodness!

PALAZZO @ Sisyphos Wintergarten (24/10/2025)

Burek is turning 18 with this one and we’re honored to have the opportunity to welcome one of Chicago’s most interesting producers to our family. His name is Mr Gene Hunt and if you’ve been into proper house music, it’s impossible to miss one of his records.

For this EP, titled “Reborn Rhythms”, Gene delivers 4 full-blooded house bombs. All tracks are going beyond 8 minutes of length and are making good use of that time. Common denominator of all tracks is the irresistible and effective groove which is almost challenging you to try and not to move to it.

A side is reserved for two versions of already anthemic-sounding “Deep House Thang” featuring Laffeyette Parker on the vocals. First up is the instrumental mix, and the second a full vocal.

Mr Hunt managed to come up with a skillfully balanced juxtaposition of a latin-sounding groove, catchy funk-sounding synth hook and gorgeous cascading pads. By the point the vocal drops, the whole room understand that the words are true.

Full vocal version is musically same as the instrumental but puts a much bigger spotlight to Laffeyette’s soulful vocal. He’s much more present and is developing the theme through several verses, in comparison to the instrumental one where only the chorus appears.

First cut on the B side, “Get Down”, is a ready-for-the-floor house track which during the first 20 seconds locks you into a heavy guitar-based bassline groove which bites like a bulldog. Throw Gene’s drum programming into the mix, with several different vocal chunks exchanging roles and you’ve got something you’ll be reaching for a lot. Serious house music vibes.

Second cut on the B side, “The Message”, could be described as the “calmest” or the “deepest” of the batch but that description doesn’t do it justice. It’s a beautiful peak-time house song which manages to build and move quite a lot without losing you in the richness of its piano chords, airy choir-reminiscent synths and beautiful strings. Simply timeless.
