It had been over 35 years since I last played the guitar...

I started again at the end of July 2025.

On August 10, 2025, I recorded this cover with my cell phone,
WITHOUT EFFECTS, raw sound, with vocals and guitar.

When converting the file to Wav format, I simply heightened the volume.

First of all, I would like to thank two followers:

- Four months ago, the first one really encouraged me 
to pick up the guitar again.

- The second is someone I hold in high esteem, 
who gave me confidence and, above all,
strongly advised me to post this track as it is,
despite its imperfections (the chords weren't quite right,
the singing wasn't great...)

In ATL where I live, rainstorms have arrived for the next few days as Hurricane Erin has moved inland. Yet, even on the rainiest of days, the afterglow of music created around firelight lingers like the smoky scent of burnt hickory. In my world, that “firelight” is a computer screen, although in the past I’ve noodled an acoustic guitar around a campfire. Who hasn’t?! 😀

I doomscroll on my phone, and I see stories that fill me with dread
I know I should put down my phone and read a book, but I can’t control the urge
Things get stuck in my brain that I really wish I could purge
It’s a fine line between staying informed and doomscrolling
And it’s so hard to put down that phone once you pick it up and start that ball rolling
There’s a constant stream of bad news that never goes stale
Why can’t the world be more like a fairy tale
Forever chemicals in the water, pollution in the air
Global temperatures rising, and the oil companies don’t care
Russians making nuclear threats and our leaders they just shrug
Some nights it feels like I’m in a hospital bed and they‘re about to pull the plug
