Anna Cordell creates warm yet deceptively complex folk music. Her voice is rich and tender yet lyrically her music is filled with angst and conflict an emotional impact that is heightened by her penchant for the minor key.

With a voice that floats with honesty and soulful warmth atop acoustic, overtly melodic tendencies, you could be forgiven for thinking Rick Hart was a throwback to the late 60’s or early 70’s. 

Think the soulful tenderness of Van Morrison or against the back drop of a Credence choogle. A John Prine love story layered upon an infectious Stones’ groove. Maybe even the fragility of Gram Parsons with the rhythmic persuasions of Paul Simon. Inspired by so many, yet a sound all his own. 

Strong melodies married with creative, introspective lyrics that travel through all the depths of human emotion and relationships, the good, the bad and everything in between.

While there is no denying his country roots, this award winning songwriter seamlessly welcomes other genres into his world, like opening the door to close friends. Country, folk, rock and R&B are hemmed with his undeniable pop sensibilities.

Within his song “Hummingbird”, he asks the question “Is it wrong to assume that with all its imperfections love can conquer and consume”. Never claiming to know the answer, but never ceasing to search for it through song. Listen to his songs, and you’ll quickly realise that Rick sees his craft as an exploration, a journey, one that never ends.

His debut solo EP “Spiral”, released in 2014, has been warmly received. “This is impressive songwriting! The melodic aspects perfectly capture the emotional tone of the songs. The classic alt country/R&B musical aspects are brilliant. It’s a genuine pleasure to review this exceptionally high level of songwriting.“, stated the Great American Song Contest, where two tracks from the EP were both finalists in 2014’s contest.

Rick’s songwriting was also recognised at a national level in 2012, when his song “My Hesitation” won the Best Ballad category at the Australian Songwriters Association awards.

The road ahead for Rick promises so much. His first album, more extensive live shows and touring, all the while never wavering from what he loves most ... creating music which is endearing, honest and just so infectious.

Burnt letters is a Melbourne-based alt-country and blues outfit formed in 2013. Debut EP out April 5th.

Burnt letters started its life as a recording project. In late 2013 Kinch Kinski asked writer and singer Lou Pine to compose and sing harmonies for a new EP. 

The project quickly took on a life of its own, with other musicians getting in on the act, a pozible campaign, and plans for gigs, tours, manic dancing, and world domination.
