We welcome taste-maker Ian DPM for #18 of our Tapes series. 

1/2 of the powerhouse label Scuffed Recordings, owner of Definite Party Material (the match to his namesake), part of the team at Lobster Theremin, and a talented producer and DJ: Ian DPM's mixes and music span from techno, electro, breaks, house and beyond with a prominent sampling style which is always vibrant and full of energy. 

Taste level is what sets Ian DPM out from the rest and his curation comes with razor-sharp precision. Intuition has had him championing music from across electronic music spheres and his label Scuffed Recordings has found a special place in the center of the UK's electronic music scene pumping out consistent releases and continuously earning its spot as one the most innovative underground labels around. 

Ian DPM excels in everything they put his mind to Tapes #18 is just another clear and brilliant example of this.

Nightclubs reopened in the UK the day I recorded this mix so I put it together with peak time in mind. Without overthinking it, I reckon it's a good representation of where my ear is at the moment.

This week’s Local Selection Mix comes from Belfast born, Berlin based talent AOIFE. Fresh off the back of a debut in Tresor, AOIFE has supplied a 90 minute thriller full of twists and turns from groove, loops, bloops, EBM and slamming techno.

DJ, event promoter, international publicist and label manager- AOIFE has confirmed her own place in Europe’s dance music community.

The Belfast born, Berlin based talent has firmly integrated herself amongst a variety of parties, starting a residency with Germany’s Ravescape and having regular appearances with UK party starters Ape-X. AOIFE has formed an unapologetic approach to DJ sets, focusing on the sounds of untamed techno, driving electro, ebm and dance floor euphoria. The self-taught DJ has already appeared on notable platforms like Rinse FM, RTE Pulse & Kanal 6.

After being tipped as ‘One To Watch‘ on Behind The Decks in 2020, AOIFE made a move to Berlin and has continued on an accelerated progression, rubbing shoulders on line ups with the likes of VTSS, Manni Dee, Keepsakes & O.B.I. at clubs including Tresor, Khidi Club, Suicide Club, Digital & World Headquarters, Rote Sonne in cities such as Newcastle – England, Amman – Jordan and Berlin & Munich – Germany & Tbilisi – Georgia.

With a profound multifaceted ability, AOIFE strives to develop and mature her sound amongst the Berlin music scene, as she joins Percussive Agency. The future burns bright bright for this rising talent.

This is a mix of different tracks, moments, moods and sounds that I’ve been playing over the last while. I’m preferring longer sets at the moment and getting the chance to build on energies so that’s why this one has an extra half hour to a 60’minute podcasts as normal. Expect a bit of everything from groove, loops, bloops, EBM and slamming techno.

Bringing our final UNFOLD of 2022 to a close was a four and a half hour long B2B between Voicedrone and James Newmarch.

A rare, marathon set from the pair allowed a different approach to their playing; gradually increasing their tempo, giving more time and space to explore their collections, whilst playing to a main room that stayed at near peak capacity and energy levels throughout.

Nakamo's sound drifts through different worlds and eras, merging driving techno, melodic textures, and nostalgic grooves with a futuristic twist.

Nakamo started her DJ journey in 2020 across the North London party scene, crafting podcasts over lockdown for London-based techno collectives. She made her debut at award-winning artist-led space and nightclub FOLD. Since then, the recent newcomer has already made a strong name for herself, having played at well-respected events in the capital, such as HTBX, HOWL, UNFOLD as well as making her European debut at the mighty Ved Siden Af in Copenhagen earlier last year.

With two releases under her belt in 2021, including “orbiter” and “Sonar” and a upcoming collab EP on Leisure World with Ctrl Traxx, Nakamo is an emerging producer to watch.
