Kicking off our brand-new premiere series! Faze Action's Afro series hits a fourth and final volume with Zeke Manyika and Faze Action themselves at the helm of two new singles. The vibes on this one are a straight-up dazzling disco cut, perfect for the end of summer celebrations

Opener 'Maswera' brings nice open-air festival sounds, rich horn work and expressive drum funk. Manyika's chants are the icing on the cake for this one. Then comes a nice dubbed-out remix of 'Rugare' by Faze Action with lively disco drums and loose-limbed percussion. The original on the flip is a more straight-up disco cut while a paired back instrumental of 'Maswera' closes things down in style. Timeless Afro bombs for sure.

Juno Premiere: Faze Action Ft Zeke Manyika - Rugare [Faze Action]

I've not updated my profile over here for 3 years so here we go  ! Also my personal turntables have been broken for over two years so I can only record live in clubs where I play. You'll hear the needle skipping, rewinds, the crowd screaming, myself bigging up on the mic, and no editing, this is a live recording.

This was done at Mona my residency in Paris at La Java in October 2013. That night I invited DJ Steaw and Garrett David to play with me. We started quite early, at 10 pm, as we had a Vogue and Waack ball on at the start of the night and played through until 6 am. This particular one hour set was recorded between 4 and 5 am. I was feeling a little tired by that time, as I had only just become a father three days before.

Disco is just the departure point for this varied three-tracker from Steve Cooper, a British producer who's now based in Australia. The original of 'Bass Update' is a chuggy, throbbing affair that sits somewhere between Italo-disco and the more commercial likes of Lipps Inc, but the remix from Manuel Costela flips the script completely, adding breakbeats and a vague air of menace to leave it sounding like nothing so much as classic mid-00s Plumps tackle. 'What U Want' then makes use of a familiar vocal sample as it plays us out on a more driving, housed-up note.
