After their excellently crafted ‘Reaction’ EP last September, Extrasketch boss Butane and decades-long collaborator Andras Toth join forces yet again as their work evolves to find its most dancefloor spirit yet. Building on their deep and expansive solo and collaborative catalogues, this May the pair unveil three fresh productions across their latest EP ‘Tribe | Danse | Caste’.

The eerie and tipped-out ‘Tribe’ opens things on a distinctly wonky, off-kilter techno tip, with slick percussion and a warping synthetic bassline driving things into deepest territories. ‘Danse’ brings a wealth of organic textures to the fore, with rolling drums meeting a transcendental, mysterious woodwind melody. ‘Caste’ closes the show with a tough, club-ready low-end and deep ethereal vocal chants.

Adding to his rich discography spanning two decades, the Extrasketch boss once again steps out on home turf as he readies his three-part series ‘Underground Business’ comprising eleven high quality, no-nonsense club cuts. Leading up to the label’s 50th release to close out 2023, Volume One sees Rasse unveil the first three productions - two solo pieces alongside a collaboration with longstanding friend and label alumnus Riko Forinson. 



A heady and trippy opener, ‘Let The Music Take You’ is a trademark Butane cut from start to finish. From the warped samples to the crisp rolling drums and the slightly off-kilter demeanour given by the track’s sweeping synths, it’s a tumbling and hypnotic offering for late-night moments. ‘Be Free’ is rolling and heavy, yet glides along with ease as the track’s core vocal guides rich chords marked by a subtle darkness. A tight groove and a series of wonky breaks keep things building for the duration. To close, Forinson joins the party adding trademark percussion as the two serve up another typically classy collaboration, combining raw hats and tough drums with a captivating Butane-signature melodic bassline. This is one for the warehouses and will burrow itself into your brain, leaving you wanting more.

Growing up in the midwestern United States, Butane was steeped in the classic underground house and techno sounds that originated in Chicago and Detroit. Further influences came from afar: New York house, west coast house, UK tech house, Cologne techno, Berlin minimal.  His formative years were spent on the dancefloors of legendary venues like Twilo and Vinyl in New York City, Space and Crobar during Miami's Winter Music Conference, and Rednofive in Chicago.

An avid record collector and DJ since 2002, Andrew’s infamous monthly party in St. Louis established an underground scene in the city and became a must-stop for touring international artists.  In 2004, Andrew embarked on his own artistic journey in the studio, despite lacking any formal musical training (a classically trained pianist he was not).  Proving to be a fast learner, his unique and eclectic sound began earning him worldwide acclaim on international record labels in a mere matter of months.  The German press dubbed him a “wunderkind”.  He moved to Berlin shortly after, residing in the city from 2006-2011.  

Now a resident of San Francisco, Butane is renowned for a steadfast commitment to his craft, and stands as a pillar of artistic integrity and consistency in the rapidly changing realm of electronic dance music.  He values studio work over social media, and boasts an impressive and sprawling discography released by some of the most respected imprints in the business.  As the founder of three labels of his own - Alphahouse, Little Helpers, and his new Extrasketch project - Butane's impact on the industry is both deep and enduring.

For over two decades, Andrew has traversed the globe curating unforgettable sonic experiences.  From underground raves to name-brand clubs, electrifying festival stages to poolside soirées, he has graced the decks in over 60 countries.  Infused with energy, finesse, and sophistication, his sets resonate deeply with in-the-know audiences.  Armed with a meticulously curated collection of custom edits, remastered classics, and hidden gems from decades in the house and techno business, Butane draws on his considerable experience moving crowds to deliver versatile, unpredictable, pitch-perfect performances.
