The Estonian house DJ and producer Taavi Tuisk drops a two tracker for Steve Bug’s irrepressible Poker Flat Recordings. 

Taavi has been making, releasing and promoting music for almost 2 decades, and here we get to feel something of his playful approach to dance music. 

Being an audio production and multimedia lecturer at Tallinn University he could also easily have a doctor degree in DJ-ing, producing and nightlife developing. 

Taavi has been a DJ for more than half of his life and played all over the world - Spain, UK, Germany, Brazil, South Africa, USA etc. Performing at superclubs like Ministry Of Sound, Pacha and Space but also at small cozy underground venues in South Africa. He’s also founder of two open air summer clubs in Tallinn.

Taavi has been producing music since 2003 using different artist names and won the EMA (Estonian Music Award) in 2017 for the best electronic music album.

Taavi only started to release new music under his real name two years ago on labels like A Tribe Called Kotori, Beatfreak, Sudam, Exotic Refreshment, Switchlab and more. 

It’s all about a mixture of synthetic and atmospheric sounds together with ethnic motives and strong percussive grooves, he also brings live element in the form of electronic drums and synths to spice up his live dj gigs.

The title track of Incroyable is a deep house track with tons of cosmic disco attitude - bright sparking synths and shuffling grooves. What's more it features an outstanding spoken word vocal in French.

Also included is a rework by Mihai Popoviciu, a Poker Flat regular who turns in a tougher tech house version that's the perfect compliment to the original. All in all an unmissable release set to go over big with a lot of DJs and their dancefloors.

Nightsteppaz & Roland Clark's new single, 'God Was In The Speakers' includes four stunning remixes, courtesy of Robert Babicz, Mihai Popoviciu, B.K.R. (aka Simon Baker), and Nick Devon.

The original mix leads the way, manifesting as a tech-driven progressive dancefloor cut. Roland Clark's mystifying vocals reside next to a monster bassline and bleepy synths, while Mihai Popoviciu takes us down a deep and minimal route, via stripped-back synths and looping, low-slung percussion. 

Robert Babicz gives us an acid-leaning remix in his signature, hard-hitting style. B.K.R. ups the ante thanks to a powerful lead bassline, while Nick Devon rounds off proceedings on a melodically-charged note, forming a main-room classic that feels emotive and danceable throughout.

The ever prolific Sublease Music puts out another sublime release, this time handing the floor to combined talents of  Markus Homm, Brad Brunner and AG Swifty. 

Markus Homm is a veteran of the house and tech scene, and a regular at some of the scenes’ foundational venues such as Berghain. His collaborators might have less experience, but bring a whole new flavour to the cooking pot. 

"Connected not only through being part of the same booking agency in Romania (Cyclic), but also through the love for grooving underground  Music, we ended up in the Studio In Bukarest for a few days working on some music. This is the outcome of the session, grooving percussions with the rolling baseline and warm chords and stabs." says Homm.

The Big Con is an urgent, driving slice of stripped down house - the jittery percussion adds a tense edge to the hypnotic groove. The track maintains its energy throughout, with some nice variations and shifting melodic elements. 

Sleeping Dogs is also on the pared down vibe, beginning with a tough kick that eventually opens up into a warm, deep roller.

Continuing his explorations within house, techno, minimal and beyond, it’s safe to say San Francisco-based DJ, producer and label boss Andrew Rasse, aka Butane remains an artist at the top of his game when it comes to crafting functional, intuitive dance floor material. Kicking off the New Year with yet more classy and quality house efforts, late January sees Rasse deliver Extrasketch’s first output of 2023 as he unveils three fresh cuts in typically slick fashion with his ‘Dirt, Worldwide’ EP.

Lead track ‘Club Foot’ employs a killer organic tech house groove guided by rolling drums and shakers. Winding along effortlessly, the subtly hypnotic, infectious tune shapes up to be a low-key terrace anthem. Next, ‘Voice Inside (Filbert Street Mix)’ veers off into a slightly wonky and off-kilter warehouse trip as fuzzy analog bass patterns merge with warped vocal interjections and skippy percussion for a decidedly mind-meets-body affair. ‘Whatcha Doin’ closes the package on a smoother, dubby note. Harnessing a slightly eerie tension across the track, Rasse deftly drops some ear candy in the form of a cheeky vocal sample while harnessing those signature Butane elements. Another late-night mover in the bag.

'Zurich’s Elvis Cassetta delivers a dazzling four-track debut EP to his brand-new WhyNot imprint, set to be released on 17th March. Complete with a refined deep house sound, this is an expertly crafted body of silky smooth grooves to get floors shaking.

Down With Us instantly displays Cassetta’s effortless ability to create a hot house swing using just a handful of elements – subtle groove, skittish percussion and a sultry vocal sample. The whole track is thrown out wide in the breakdown, but then as the bassline is brought back in, Cassetta draws it all back in close for an intimate dancefloor moment. Definitely one of those hands-in-the-air peak-time scenes.

Dreamy synth pads steadily build under a thunderous kick drum pattern on the EP’s second track, Focals Finest, which takes the tempo up a notch for a real sweat inducer.

Finally, it’s all about a raw bassline on the metallic and techy Jupiter Groove. Contorted slices of spoken word dip in and out throughout to create another level of leftfield, danceable percussion. While the low end is the main focus on the original, in Silat Beksi’s remix, we hear a brighter take on the deep groove. There’s a swirling sample, more prominent key stabs, eerie vocals and a teasing smattering of melody. Percussive elements are thrown from all angles, and they pulsate up into the rafters of the lofty house track, leading you further into a state of hypnosis.

Overall, these are house tracks made right – a classy release fit for warming in crowds in style.

Growing up in the midwestern United States, Butane was steeped in the classic underground house and techno sounds that originated in Chicago and Detroit. Further influences came from afar: New York house, west coast house, UK tech house, Cologne techno, Berlin minimal.  His formative years were spent on the dancefloors of legendary venues like Twilo and Vinyl in New York City, Space and Crobar during Miami's Winter Music Conference, and Rednofive in Chicago.

An avid record collector and DJ since 2002, Andrew’s infamous monthly party in St. Louis established an underground scene in the city and became a must-stop for touring international artists.  In 2004, Andrew embarked on his own artistic journey in the studio, despite lacking any formal musical training (a classically trained pianist he was not).  Proving to be a fast learner, his unique and eclectic sound began earning him worldwide acclaim on international record labels in a mere matter of months.  The German press dubbed him a “wunderkind”.  He moved to Berlin shortly after, residing in the city from 2006-2011.  

Now a resident of San Francisco, Butane is renowned for a steadfast commitment to his craft, and stands as a pillar of artistic integrity and consistency in the rapidly changing realm of electronic dance music.  He values studio work over social media, and boasts an impressive and sprawling discography released by some of the most respected imprints in the business.  As the founder of three labels of his own - Alphahouse, Little Helpers, and his new Extrasketch project - Butane's impact on the industry is both deep and enduring.

For over two decades, Andrew has traversed the globe curating unforgettable sonic experiences.  From underground raves to name-brand clubs, electrifying festival stages to poolside soirées, he has graced the decks in over 60 countries.  Infused with energy, finesse, and sophistication, his sets resonate deeply with in-the-know audiences.
