And Then There Were None is a mystery novel written by the acclaimed author Agatha Christie. “Ten strangers are lured to an isolated island mansion off the Devon coast by a mysterious ‘U.N. Owen’. At dinner a recorded message accuses each of them in turn of having a guilty secret, and by the end of the night one of the guests is dead. Stranded by a violent storm, and haunted by a nursery rhyme counting down one by one… as one by one… they begin to die. Which among them is the killer and will any of them survive?”

To me, I’m used to the conventional style of a detective solving a mystery case like a murder, a ransom note, or a disappearance. I suppose that’s because of all the shows I’ve watched that involve police or some other investigate authority, like NCIS for example. The idea that all the characters were guilty of some form of crime was an insight into how shallow my idea of a murder mystery was and gave me a chance to explore its other possibilities. As I continue to reread the book, I’m always amazed at how Agatha Christie plants each element at the right time. However, it does depend somewhat on the personalities of each character, if one deviates from their nature slightly then it could mess up everything afterwards. I think it’s because of Agatha Christie’s understanding of each character she creates in her books that the plots are so well written. I think this book would be an awesome movie and I recommend it to anyone who loves a bit of thrill and horror in a mystery. This book can be found in our library under Fiction.
