Fiesta Soundsystem cements his reputation as one of the most exciting and dexterous producers currently working in electronic music, with his spellbinding 'Not To Be' EP. Augmenting crystalline bass workouts and swirling acid euphoria with his own unique blend of future-focused jungle and darkside drum & bass.

'Pulse Fiesta' sets out his intentions from the off as we’re exposed to a richly textured, atmospheric and complex exercise in bass and breaks. Following that is 'Acid Tool' a frantic and ever-evolving slice of corkscrew shaped acid, that pushes all the right buttons with its precision engineered drums and hydraulic percussion.

Kicking off the B-side is 'Not To Be (Rude)', a deliciously rich and elaborate fusion of otherworldly jungle and drum & bass. A salute to everyone who’s came before and to those who continuously push the envelope. 'The Slip' brings the journey to an end as it cruises into play, blacked out windows and all. A nod to the darker sides of jungle and drum & bass. A masterclass in atmospheric sound structures and cinematic stylings.

'Not To Be' features some next-level audio engineering and trickery that pulls from many genres to form something totally unique and captivating. The perfect showcase for an artist with unbelievable potential and a deeply engaging story to tell.

Hyperlink is an experimental French label and mix series established around one year ago, focused mainly on club-oriented contemporary electronic music. After the first various artist compilation lilywhite, whose proceeds went to the charity helping women in distress called La Fédération Nationale Solidarité Femmes, the label is back with its second release, a mini digital comp called link001 which gathers six artists from all around the world.

Reportedly pondering on the possible post-pandemic scenarios that could open in the music industry and how they will affect the underground community on pivotal questions such as social equity, diversity, and inclusion, Hyperlink will try, through this record series, to pave the road for international collaborations between emerging producers and graphic artists, resulting in special works of art.

Curated by label founder and Internet Public Radio resident F̷a̷n̷n̷y̷  and mastered by Ytem, link001 will be out in digital format on September the 24th (the pre-order is already up on Bandcamp at this link). The release collects contributions from artists with different backgrounds and styles, namely Sprælle, Aeoi, KAVARI, Tristan, KARLFROYE, and Yikii. Our focus today will be on the last artist on the list, as we're pleased to be curating the premiere of the track called The Necromorph 屍變體, coming on the fourth position on the comp's tracklist.

Based in China, Yikii is a singer, poet, artist, and music producer who is not bound by any tag genre or style, as she has been consistently meddling with somber piano music, ethereal vocal dirges, cutting-edge sound design, distorted hardcore kick drums, and much more. Her peculiar take on electronic music has been already featured on important labels such as Genome6.66Mbp, Quantum Natives, Unseelie, and Danse Noire, and many more, always showcasing a sleek dichotomy between nightmarish atmospheres and grandiose explosions of energy.

In The Necromorph 屍變體, one can find Yikii at her finest moment of inspiration: destructive obscurity meets with blinding redemption; eerie melodies are enclosed in rhythmic, ruthless parades of distortion; sounds are enveloped in a highly cinematic framework where the listener's always kept on edge, their tension and anticipation toyed with by an inspired artist who can let on to infantile impulses as well as grown-up damnation.

Ital Tek (a.k.a. Alan Myson) returns to Planet Mu with his sixth album ‘Outland‘.

The album was written during a period of new beginnings following a move out of the city to a quieter space and the birth of his first child. During this time of self-imposed isolation Alan recorded a huge amount of source material and spent weeks and months sitting up at night with his newborn, listening back and making notes on how the new record should take form, focusing and developing ideas to shape this lean ten-track album.

Alan talks of the record being a collaboration between two parts of himself, something that definitely comes across as the album unfolds. Textures are something Alan excels at and on his last album, the largely beatless ‘Bodied’, it felt as if he was building a new sound-world. On ‘Outland’ he expands upon this. The album brings together the extremes of Alan’s sound, contrasting roughened bass and beats with starker more detailed atmospheres and emotions.

The most beat-driven song here is ‘Deadhead’, with its gnarled bouncing bass, angular distorted melodies and cavernous textures. On tracks like ‘Bladed Terrain’ the contrasts are even more defined with buzzing drones and razor sharp drums plunging into a grainy fog, giving the track a dramatic 3D feel. Then there are the stop-start pauses of ‘Leaving The Grid’, where the song evaporates into space before reemerging with shuddering rhythms and ghostly textures. Melodies crawl around these tracks as if they’re just waking up, as heard on the atmospheric ‘Angel In Ruin’.

The sleep-deprived fraying of the senses became Alan’s routine and one which he says gave him a renewed creative energy; half-asleep, working through the night, and then into the daytime super-focused but exhausted. Prone to audio hallucinations whilst writing the album, he aimed to capture these distortions in his perception of pitch and time, and you can hear these effects interpreted on tracks like ‘Endless’ and ‘Open Heart’ as melodies phase and slip out of time like an emotional Doppler effect. This is also true of the soaring atonal synths at the peak of ‘Diamond Child’, which feel like the aural equivalent of eye floaters. 

These intuitive feelings and functions are a difficult thing to capture in sound, but Alan manages it beautifully and always makes the result feel warm and adventurous, heartfelt and epic.

With a handful of releases out on various pioneering imprints (including longplays RISC Chip and Meme Booth via Conditional Records or the latest contribution to the groove series by Warsaw based label outlines), the producer, programmer and live-coder Mike Hodnick is one of the leading figures representing a movement of computer-centred music production, recently labeled as algorave. Since we are devoted fans for quite some time, the Platonic's are proud to present Mike Hodnick´s latest project under the prolific Kindohm alias - 'Deserted / Reclaimed'.
Sequenced live on a drum machine, the diptych stretches across four vast sonic plains, bounded by curvy dunes formed by countless TidalCycles code bits, constantly pouring over like the grains of scorching and shiny sand. Full of paradoxical rhythm twists planted into the ever-bending landscape, Deserted / Reclaimed reads as a fragmented and sometimes petrifying ride towards the chaotic percepts of the monumental surroundings, dissolving in the thermal inversion somewhere far on the horizon.

Straight out of Florence, Italy, OOH are a label that stand high upon their own mountain top. Across their growing catalogue, spanning twenty releases and counting, they bring a highly curated, avant-garde vibe with sound design lying at its core. They have played host to artists such as Peder Mannerfelt, Dale Cornish and Sim Hutchins among others. Continuing such a thread, they now prepare their twenty-first release from french duo, Glass, entitled 'crY' EP. 

Recently debuting with independent French label, Sante Records,Glass present a body of work that is full of meaning on 'crY' EP. Not simply a collection of productions but an expansive investigation into sound in the broadest sense. In their own words, 'crY' EP is 'a response to an explicit impulse to investigate modern commodification beyond its soothing, enjoyable and relaxing facade.' This can certainly be seen in Glass' sound design, juxtaposing elements of weirdo techno, jungle and experimental with nuances from gaming and other electronically related worlds.

On track 'Appointment Scheduling System', Glass have parsed a modernist take on jungle. The immediacy of unrelenting drum patterns pairs with raw samples from everyday life. Tension is built in the syncopation of elements from laser stabs to door knocks, the track is a pummeling fistful of energy.
