This week the BWWPodcast Team sat down to discuss what it means to be one year on since 'the black square'.

We explore the big question of what the black square meant and means for organisations where the performative nature of the black square stopped at the 'black face' of it, i.e. what we see in the marketing. Is having more black faces in one space, that is a single space, without actually creating a space, that does not facilitate diversity across the organisation and the needs of black people in the workplace enough?
We discuss we way in which we as black people, especially black female influencers, have been on the frontline, of adding diversity to the 'black squares'.  In what ways have we helped to make progress or did we put ourselves on the frontline of exploitation?

As with so many of our recent Let's Talk About It segments, we conclude on the message of being comfortable with being uncomfortable. Let's not be disillusioned and stay active in the way you know how.

BWW Interview With... Shereen Daniels

Let's Talk About It - Break My Soul

One of the pillars of our work at The Black Women Podcast is to nurture and protect our physical wellbeing with regards to work and today we are discussing the current conservation about the UK implementing a government workplace policy on menstrual leave. This policy has already been adopted by several countries around the world and instructs employers to increase leave specifically for women when on their period.
With #endowarrior Nicole Marriott, we explore what such a policy would mean for women living with conditions that have an adverse effect on their menstrual cycle, why governments and employers are reluctant to include this policy in the workplace and what we think such a policy should include.

Let's Talk About It - Pay black women

Last Week, comments by Frank Hester, a long term Millionaire Tory Donor surfaced in which he called for Diane Abbot MP to be shot and stated that seeing her on television, made him want to hate all Black Women. We, along with many others, were infuriated by his comments but also deeply hurt that Frank Hester’s views are all too common and that this episode is not a new experience or a “one off” occurrence for us as Black Women.

In this episode, Chan and Nats sit down to talk about how these comments about Diane Abbott MP, the first black woman to be elected as a member of parliament in 1986, have impacted us and how we move forward when we are dealing with Frank Hesters in our working environment. We stand by Diane Abbott MP and all other Black Women that face racism in the workplace and in their daily lives and provide support for each other when figuring out how to continuing working and showing up as our authentic selves in light of such regular occurrences.
