After releasing an exceptional EP of twisted jackers on CGI last month, it only made sense to ask Grey People to contribute a mix to our series. Here we are treated to a deeper look into what is influencing the pluralist industrial jackin utopia that is his original production work.  Much like the EP itself, this mix takes us through a wide range of moods, from dark and dusty to deep and cosmic to funky and downright playful…and a few things that defy easy categorization.  A most pleasurable cross-section of acid, house, italo, new beat, ebm, new wave, and techno, no one could have weaved all of this together as seamlessly and as creatively as the warped mid if Grey Peopel.

Coming from Polish born, Brooklyn based Amourette, an eclectic DJ pursuing emotion over one particular sound. She’s interested in spaced out electro, broken-beat techno, psychedelic distortions, deep baselines and indelible melodies. Amourette is the co-curator of Brooklyn’s Remedy event series, focused on showcasing raw, groundbreaking talent such as Annanan, Drvg Cvltvre, Marsman, Justin Cudmore, TWINS, Claude Young, Patrick Russell, Zenker Bros and more. Remedy has debuted many artists from Europe and is continuing to promote cutting-edge sounds. She also graciously provided us with a tracklist for this killer set.

Maroje came down to Atlanta in June and played one of the most impressive live sets we've seen in a while for a CGI party, so it only made sense to ask for a mix and see what kind of madness is influencing his brilliant style. Those of you who live in NYC keep an eye/ear out for his awesome REMEDY parties he throws with partner-in-crime Amourette. Beneath the still waters of Lonely Sound there lays the ruins of Howland Abbey, its 3000lb bell still hanging in the belfry, only swayed by the currents of the regular tides across the estuary, over 100 years since it was rang by the order of Carthusian monks who lived in the nearby priory. At the turn of the last century during a heavy storm the Abbey was plundered by an unknown gang of marauders, as they left on horseback carrying with them all the gold from the Abbey the sea defences around Lonely Sound were breached, flooding the Abbey, Priory and the surrounding land, the Monks ran for dry land as they watched their beloved bell tower disappear beneath the rising waters, unable to chase the thieves, cut off as the water rose around them. Some locals say these ransackers were in league with the elements, some say they had just intentionally damaged the sea defences before making their raid. Local folk-law claims that the morning bells of the Abbey can be heard ring out from beneath the murky waters of the Sound every year on the anniversary of the great storm, ringing the peel that was never rung.

“Dumpster diving know-how” consists of six tracks that operate both on acid sequences and on fairy-tale-like synthesizers. But this fairy tale is eerie, full of sound waste and disastrous prophecies. There’s room for a tribal apocalypse (“War Drums For Children”), broken acid techno (“The Most Complex Thing” recorded together with Elena Sizowa, a Belarussian DJ and producer) and some spooky yet magical synth landscapes (“Take A Deep Breath & Dive Into The Bin”). What can be heard throughout the whole mini-album is the excellent sound that is not afraid of dirt, noise and “sound waste” that the title refers to.

Multiple Man - High On The Hog

Multiple Man is comprised of twin duo Chris & Sean Campion. Originally operating from Brisbane, Australia, their four track EP for Fleisch represents their first record written since Chris’s relocation to New York City. 'High On The Hog' finds Multiple Man at a disconnect. Spread between different continents and time zones, the record’s direction is a marked progression from previous sounds.

Paranoid atmospherics, sheet metal percussion and unhinged mutant sampling, the record finds the twins wallowing in the muck and the mire. The junk funk is still there but it’s bathed in machine age voodoo. This is not a record for the post-apocalypse but an end of history banger for the psycho rollerball time we live in.

Counting down every weird minute until the bombs drop, it represents a grotesque vision of end-times razorback EBM. Continuing the evolution in Multiple Man’s discography and contributing to the Berlin label’s vision, ‘High On The Hog’ throws another piece of meat into the Fleisch grinder.
