Solid Steel (5th December) It's a huge show this week as we welcome back Diplo to Solid Steel. 10 years ago Diplo released his album Florida on Big Dada and played his first UK gig in an intimate venue at the monthly Solid Steel club night (and twice more that year). He plays somewhat larger venues now, including a residency in Las Vegas and Madison Square Garden on NYE. To celebrate the reissue of F10RIDA, he drops a mix exclusively for Solid Steel which features the new Eprom remix of Big Lost from the album, plus music across the board from Deadboy, Radiohead, Pharcyde, Kaytranada, Heaven 17 and our very own Bonobo.

Solid Steel Radio Show 5/12/2014 Part 1 + 2 - Diplo

Pretty in [Neon] Pink esta inspirado en mi llegada a Londres, donde por un tiempo aun indefinido estaré viviendo. Esta ciudad es una capital sagrada para la cultura popular y la música en general y desde que llegué no he podido evitar ser víctima de la invasiva forma en que todo está relacionado a ella a mi alrededor. El set está inspirado en esas primeras imágenes del Londres actual donde de forma inexplicable los ochentas están en todo. Wayfarers de color, calentadores y mallones, spray en el pelo, topsiders y pantalones arremangados, sombreros y copetes que tapan las caras de hombres y mujeres…los 80’s han sido la década mas larga de los últimos años y parece que a 30 años de 1980….aun se puede vivir de y “en” ellos.

Es así que en el set hay un poco de los ochentas de antes…y su influencia directa en los ochentas de hoy. No pude resistir la tentación y ahi están Los Pixies y Roxy Music… pero al mismo tiempo hay sampleos, covers y muchos destellos que incluyen a The Smiths, el sonido de New Order y la oscuridad propia de Jesus & Mary Chain en el sonido de The Big Pink.

Londres esta tapizado de Gorillaz y The xx así que ellos están en éste set, como están también Phoenix, Late Of The Pier y The Magistrates.
La portada y la música son precisamente un homenaje a lo que veo y escucho por aqui, espero que aunque sea durante los 50 minutos que dura ustedes también sientan que están aqui.
