Can't say enough how much I appreciate how you untraditionalize by using such powerful traditional methods, which is usually what anyone was doing when any 'tradition' started in the first place, for the most. The first jazz musicians didn't know what jazz was even yet, for they saw it as new and limitless in possibility, in my view anyhow. Anyhow, that limitlessness is so thriving in these works, Cutleri etc...

This is very cool, vocally and song-wise. very Interesting music behind the verses, cool, unique.

Tom Waits (on Jim Wilson): "Wilson, he's always playing with time. I heard a recording recently of crickets slowed way down. It sounds like a choir, it sounds like angel music. Something sparkling, celestial with full harmony and bass parts - you wouldn't believe it. It's like a sweeping chorus of heaven, and it's just slowed down, they didn't manipulate the tape at all. So I think when Wilson slows people down, it gives you a chance to watch them moving through space. And there's something to be said for slowing down the world."

The making of this album was a bit of a reunion. With Jessie in New York, Heidi in New Hampshire, and Christen in Kansas, the ladies of Cutleri haven't had a chance to play or record together in some time. But over a glorious weekend this past July, we got together on Rattlesnake Island in NH, 9 years after the first time we were there when we had just started out as a band. We recorded late into the night in a little Hobbit room under the cabin, with spiders spying on us and Saturn and Mars shining over the water outside... 

Missing Reverie includes four new original songs by Cutleri, a couple old favorites we used to cover, and a couple atmospheric tracks to soothe your soul. You'll hear that classic Cutleri sound and banter, with ethereal harmonies, moving instrumentation, and experimental oddities to compliment it all. The sirens of silverware are happy to share this new album with you!

Thoughts on Time and Home

This time last year was a very difficult time, as I watched my beloved cat of 10 years withering away, day by day.  I named this piece for her, after the fact, because it reminded me of that aching feeling of love, sadness and absence that just seemed to linger throughout that year, first with the loss of my old friend, turned brother in law Sebastian, then my Grandma Tessie and then Nina.  Even though it sometimes seems masochistic to make myself sad all over again, I don't want to forget how much I love and miss these, or any of the people (beings), we've lost, over the years and over time.

 This is a piece by Cherubim, with Yuko Pepe on guitar, and myself on trombone and computer.

Nina

Christen Napier is originally a visual artist and her approach to music has always been quite visual as well. Being self-taught, she has put an experimental twist on traditional styles. She enjoys playing many instruments (including a 1920's Royal typewriter) but her main instrument is the banjo. Lately she has been immersing herself in Celtic music and playing the banjolin.

Christen is a member of the chamber folk trio of ladies, www.soundcloud.com/Cutleri. She also plans to continue banjo/tabla collaborations with percussionist www.soundcloud.com/Tem-noon.  Most recently she has been performing with www.soundcloud.com/knife-throwers-assistance, based in NYC. But that's a while ago now...

Christen is also a songwriter. Her debut solo album has been "in progress" forever. Maybe one day it will get recorded.

Her most important love and inspiration is her 7 year old daughter Maisie who is a budding musician herself.  Collaborations are on the horizon...
