Lounna is the indie-folk musical project by Pittsburgh songwriter and producer Brenna Slate. Inspired by modern artists that range from Bear’s Den to Gregory Alan Isakov to boygenius, Slate’s songwriting combines elements of indie, folk, alternative, and americana genres that seamlessly shift from soft sonic scapes to captivating indie rock ballads. Lounna is entering into a new era with the anticipated arrival of her sophomore record with songs portraying mental health, difficult life circumstances, and lessons learned while simultaneously highlighting what it means to remain hopeful even amidst the darkness.

In January 2024, Lounna postponed the release of her sophomore record when her husband was diagnosed with Burkitt Lymphoma. In lei of the full project, she released the highly reviewed single 'Peak Season', which was deemed the harbinger of the full record to come. If the song acts as a harbinger of the record, then the thoughtful and high reviews of the song foreshadow what the full record has in store for its listeners. “‘Peak Season’ carries melancholy, yet it is also filled with incredible energy, like a beam of light in a dark room. ...tender vocals, textured harmonies, and light arrangement blend together to form a gentle blanket of sound. The vibrant development of the track, makes [this] an anthem of the impending spring and victory over melancholy and slumber” (Indie Boulevard). Now that Slate's [Lounna's] husband is finished with cancer treatment, her most recent singles 'Alpenglow' and ‘Under the Same Stars (ft. Reliable Child)’ are the first official releases from Lounna's sophomore record, Garden For Winter, which will be released in full on January 31st, 2025.
