DJ Fresh VS Jay Fay Feat. Ms Dynamite – 'Dibby Dibby Sound' (Out Now)

Getting to play a 2-hour set at the world's most famous music hall is an honor I so not take lightly. The Fillmore in SF, or "Fillmore West" as it has been called is the standard by which all other rock halls are judged in the United States. The list of who has taken that stage is like the history of pop music. For my own part I have had the priveledge of sharing bills there with Metallica, Parliament-Funkadelic, the Meters, Galactic, Bassnectar, and the Mutaytor. That's a lot in and of itself.

But none of those come close to the joy I was feeling from the audience as I dropepd two hours of rare funk gems opening for east coast funk legends Lettuce on 12.13. This is a live mix of some of my favorite oldschool jams, many of which I have been playing since the day I found their 45 in some bin, or since the day I made an edit from the 45 I found in some bin. Yes, this was played on Serato but many of these recordings were made off that wax. I don't think it's a perfect set technically, but if this doesn't get you through your day with a smile on your face, then I AM NOT YOUR BABY JESUS.

As always, all the credit goes to the bands that made these records and the people who wrote them. My Christmas wish is that the world finds a way to reward them better for their art, then unpaid credits in a world of unpaid artists.

Here's some words about the mix from Mo'Po himself: 

"In 2004 I was a strictly rare groove / funk / hip hop Dj in San Francisco when a good friend named Vinnie Esparza at the legendary vinyl shop "Groove Merchant" put a 12-inch single in my hand that would change my life. "Money in the Bag" was the first "dance music" record I had ever heard to that point that righteously represented the FUNK in a club format. If this blew my mind, then the B-Side "C'Mon People" with its outrageous Oscar De Jon live clavinet solo, made my head explode. For the next 10 years I have done everything humanly possible to support, promote, share, and make money for the Dutch production team known worldwide as KRAAK & SMAAK. To me, after years of friendship and many great times, including a tour they took ME out on in Holland, they are Wim, Oscar and Mark, my good friends. 

Kraak & Smaak may be the most under-appreciated  production team in the modern dance music era. Try to find a group that has been more PROLIFIC (more than 100 tracks and remixes released in that time), ECLECTIC (music that ranges from tech house to soul) and EXQUISITE (every release sounds like it was recorded by Jerry Wexler in the 70's). That K&S does not have as big a following in the States as they have in Europe is a travesty that I have done everything in my power, through SunsetSF, Silent Frisco and my many friends in the industry, to correct. But most importantly, their music has meant so much to me personally for so long. I listen to them all the time. I play their tracks all the time. Their version of dance floor disco has helped me to translate my love for rare groove into a dj and production style that modernized my own sound. To put it plainly, Kraak & Smaak may have saved my career. 

So for all those reasons, and to promote this summer which will feature a new album release at a time when the world seems finally ready for disco (thank you Daft Punk), I spent about a month putting together the mix you now hear. If anything stood out during the process, it was the sheer quantity of quality in their catalog. The hardest part was deciding what to leave OUT of this mix. 

While I'm at it, I want to thank Oscar, Wim and Mark, and their families, personally for being such supportive and good friends. To manager Jordi, former managers Marcel & Silvia, agents Robert and Wes, and labels Quango and Jalapeño, thank you for putting your precious time into these lovely humans. Part two of a four-hour latenight set from Panic en la Playa, @ Hard Rock Hotel, Dominican Republic. A great honor to be chosen for this wonderful event (thanks to Cloud9 Adventures and Widespread Panic). I prepared a lot of music for this set, including research into stuff the band covered and made a few edits, mashups and remixes of my own. In all, very proud of the outcome, and overjoyed with the response. This was by far one of the most joyous events I have been to and I feel very lucky to have been there.

A Little Holiday (Erasure vs. Madonna)

Copy Correct, aka Jeffrey Tice started composing music at the tender age of 9, on his family's piano and fell in love with making music. After getting his first synthesizer, Jeffrey discovered that he could do more with electronic instrumentation than with acoustic music, thus began his foray into electronic sounds. His early influences in music include artists like Erasure, Depeche Mode, Book of Love, Pet Shop Boys, and other New Wave synthpop artist, as well as Acid House, New Beat, and Punk Rock. While in high school, his best friend introduced him to DJ culture and underground dance music & showed him the basics of mixing records. After attending some of the first raves being thrown in and around Central Texas, Jeffrey became involved in Austin, Texas' early Rave and DJ community, and began spinning at house parties, warehouse gatherings, and at the seminal club Proteus. He is one of Austin, Texas' DJ culture pioneers!

Jeffrey Tice began producing original tracks early in his DJ career, often producing a track and playing it during one of his sets to wide acclaim. He has a great appreciation and understanding of electronic music, and DJing helps focus his production efforts.

Now residing in San Francisco, Jeffrey is a graduate of Pyramind, a music school that focuses on music production, theory & business. It was there that he began experimenting with mashups. Because after all, combining music with different sounds, textures, and genre is what a DJ does, and created his persona, Copy Correct.

With the slogan "This music is Faux Real." Copy Correct takes classic synthpop, electro pop, disco, early eighties jams, and whatever his heart desires and mashes them up to bring them into the now, redefining them for the modern listener, music fan, and dance floor. As Copy Correct, he elevates the art form of mashups; he challenges the common assumption that Mashups aren't real music...that they take no talent to create, won't last and that they're 'too easy'. He says that when hearing those things, he couldn't be happier, as a mashup artist because, "Afterall, they said the same thing about Jazz, Rock n' Roll, Heavy Metal, Punk, Disco, Hip-Hop & Electronic Music and we all know how that went."
