Brazillian-born Daniela Caldellas returns to Hotflush Recordings with ‘Misantropicalia’, a three track EP, with each one showing different facets of her influences, further enriching her identity as TERR.

Picking up where last April’s ‘Burn The Past’ EP left off, TERR continues to develop what is becoming her retro-futurist signature. The unmistakable footprint of electro, as well as a palpable nostalgia for the early ‘80s, is present throughout. The title track perhaps even betrays a whiff of italo or hi-NRG with its Moroder-esque bass and silky guitar licks, before moving into pure body-popping, linoleum dancefloor territory on the B-side. OutRun is an invitation to do the robot worm best heard on a portable ghetto blaster, while Don’t Look Around rounds off the 12” in galvanising style with hints of electroclash in fractured, fleeting vocals and beats of the fat
variety.

‘Misantropicalia’ shows TERR with her influences on her sleeve, and hergaze fixed firmly forwards.

XLR8R+008: Levon Vincent - Dance With Me

With nearly 95 percent of the current DJ population adopting enigmatic personas, it is now our duty to only present music by artists who have the time to present a deeply coded dance music mystery. Enter R.O.S.H., who first came to our attention via French legend Laurent Garnier (a clue?!?). All the info we were provided - a VHS copy of something called “The Crystal Maze” and references to televised ritual humiliation -  was merely the first layer to be peeled back before the ultimate reveal, the kind of “Oh, cool” moment that keeps us all going in these uncertain times.

As any self-respecting Techno Sleuth worth their BPM magnifying glass knows, “You gotta follow the music.” We sat down with a team of empaths to break down the release into a series of generic descriptors we hoped would tell us something about R.O.S.H.’s identity. Here’s what they came up with:

“Techno”
“90s vibes”
“Just the right kind of crazy"
“Emotional”
“Gee, this is really good”

After cross-referencing the data, we found no reason to reject the hypotheses that R.O.S.H. is “probably British” and also “an alien.” All of which is to say that things just got a lot more interesting at Twin Turbo. We’ll keep you posted.

R.O.S.H. - Perhaps I Would

Headz know that you used to walk into a record store and they’d have the stack of the week hanging up on the shelf ... you’d have the ones that everyone knows on the a-side up there, but what the selectors would pick out would often be elusive and deeper cuts on the flip side. That’s a little bit of the theme on this series. Over the next few weeks, we’re going to be releasing some sought after Sleight of Hands tracks as championed by Doc Martin, some never before heard tunes that are fresh out the studio for all on the flipside. Enjoy!

First up – a sneaky cheeky lil number - “All Of My Purple Life” raises the pulse, starting out innocent before bringing in some electro-tinged bass and a little hat tip to the Purple One (RIP!) before heading off into the acid evening. One for the beautiful sinners amongst us.

On the flip – SofH’s “Thankful” had been landing in sets around the scene for a while, but recently the guys took it back to the studio, stripped everything away, and wanted to deliver a more lo-fi tripped out version.

What’s resulted is a beautiful retro-tinged, synth-led piece that straddles between house/disco/synthwave.
