Invited by Sir John's publisher Music Sales Classical in 2009 to consider a project with him in the future I created a series of rewordings and deconstructions of his work.

Here is one demo which I offer as a gift to his spirit on the day of his passing, 12 November 2013. That collaboration will never happen in the form we intended but very soon more will be revealed. RIP sir.

Turmalinturm [remixes] is a scrupulous compilation of tracks inspired by the second Fogh Depot album released in October 2016 via Denovali Records. The idea was to compile pieces both from artists of the Denovali roster and of the booming Russian electronic scene.

The Tourmaline tower is crashed. A new town is being raised at its place, eclectic in architecture, but of a monolithic mood. Get ready for a dense atmospheric mix of magnetic darkness and genuine delicacy. This is an example of seductive and at the same time disturbing tunes at the confluence of drone, ambient, IDM and live electronica. The collection absorbes works of the most skillful producers of this noble genre demanding extreme precision.

Half of the London-based duo «Piano Interrupted» and also successful solo musician Franz Kirmann provides a shard of pure romanсе from Albion’s shore, while the experienced Moscow artist Dima Ustinov delicately and gently dissects the modal harmony of the track «Meduse». The prolific Sardinian producer Saffronkeira adds a detached, ephemeral and otherworldly piece and master of techno hymns Moa Pillar contributes a horror-drone remix of Quicksilver Spoon. For those who want to dance there is Monokle - an eclectic musician from Saint Petersburg - decomposing «Meduse» into a bassy club track. The Siberian dark lord of modular synthesizers Hmot totally deconstructs Oscar and literally distills all the piercing dramatic effect from the track, while an emotional and powerful piece by John Lemke, gloomy, affective and catchy, closes the remix album. 

The Tourmaline tower is crashed. But the town made of its remnants is no less fascinating than the original.

Fogh Depot - Oscar (HMOT Deconstruction)

Today we are proud to premiere a track by Hior Chronik, taken from an upcoming compilation on 7K! Records, titled String Layers. As the title of this release suggests, the 18 compositions on this collection are dedicated to, designed around, and created specifically for violin, viola, violoncello, and contrabass, “drawing a varied and multicoloured narrative through the contemporary instrumental music.” The compilation features 18 composers from around the world, including some of the already known names, and indeed, some of my favourites, such as Simon Goff, Echo Collective, Vito Gatto, Ceeys, Aaron Martin, Himmelsrandt and of course, Hior Chronik, among the many. The works are modern classical in nature with a barely noticeable crossover to the electronic ambient world, featuring textures and treatments to carry the voices of the stringed instruments. Hior’s piece is particularly gentle and moody, slightly sullen in the lower register, brooding over the boundaries set forth by the abstracts society and the conditioned mind, and in the process reminding us not to heed them, and do your own thing.
