The Shah Hussain Project draws inspiration from the Sufi poetry of 16th century Sufi poet Shah Hussain. Born in Lahore, Shah Hussain wrote mainly in Punjabi, Saraiki and Sindhi. His poetry consists entirely of short poems known as Kafis. They are characterized by beautiful metaphors written in rhymed lines set to rhythmic meter and lend themselves very well to music. Many of his Kafis are part of traditional Qawwali repertoire. The key aspect of the poetry is the fact that though it was written centuries ago, the thoughts are still relevant in our time. It is as much a social commentary of its time as the work of other poets like Kabir.

The Shah Hussain Project is a collaboration between well renowned, versatile and multilingual singer, songwriter, composer, performer Vasundhara Das and sufi singer par excellence Mir Mukhtiyar Ali.

The Shah Hussain Project has been completely conceptualized and recorded at The Active Studio Bangalore, which is owned and run by Vasundhara and her partner Roberto Narain. Roberto is a very well respected and renowned drummer and comes on board this project as producer and drummer. The direction of the sound for this project has been steered by the skillful musical mind of Roberto. 

The intent here has been to create music which, just like the poetry, is from the past, in the present, going into the future. And that has been the mandate for the treatment of the sound.

ReSound is a student created and produced podcast recorded in the heart of Boston, MA. We use audio as forum for visualization; creating an opportunity for listeners to explore an idea through scientific research, expert testimonial and collected anecdotes. Each podcast takes the listener on an exploratory journey through a broad concept. Our ultimate goal is to create a community of students and faculty who are inspired by our curiosity and empowered to explore their own.
