Shift Work (@shiftworking) are an electronic duo who have previously released on JD Twitch’s Glasgow label Optimo Music. They debut on Houndstooth with ‘Document II’, an EP developed from live jams on outboard analogue gear. ‘Abandoned Hands’ is lean and raw, an angular bassline and indecipherable vox punctuating the relentless 4/4 kick drum and pattering percussion. ‘SBFM’ is fuller-bodied, with the modulating bassline taking centre stage, draped in loose synths and topped with a deadpan vocal refrain.

Shift Work invited remixes from their associates, and the results are impressive, with DVA Damas (@dvadamasdvadamas) dialling down the tempo and stripping back ‘Abandoned Hands’ further still, whilst Factory Floor (@factory-floor) return to remix duty on Houndstooth with a typically subtle yet infectious building take on 'SBFM'.

Crete's Lena Platonos is a Goddess of the piano, and her illustrious career spans over thirty years. Having reissued the excellent Platonos album Galop last year, Dark Entries return with another dose of Lena goodness, transforming her gentle harmonics into dancefloor bliss. The culprits are Tel Aviv's Red Axes, who start their thrashing by moulding "Witches" into a deep, sleek, and masterfully contained groove featuring the artiste's vocals at the helm - perfectly detuned and distorted.

Lena Platonos - Witches (Red Axes Remix)

@listentosafetalk are a new Anglo-French trio who mix electronica, pop and psychedelia, and released their debut single and "cosmic hymn" 'Universal' back in March. On Friday they're releasing three great remixes of that track, and we're premiering one from UK acid dons @posthuman.

While the original track is a gorgeous little pop nugget - imagine a heady blend of Simple Minds, Future Islands and Tame Impala - Posthuman have gone for broke and turned it into a 10-minute acid trance epic. Their remix kicks off with frighteningly efficient piston-like drums before lowering down a screen of floaty, sci-fi synths. Somehow it calls to mind the Mars rover, cutting a lonely, trundling figure across the Red Planet. The second half is more combustible when the gurgling acid kicks in, providing a counterpoint to the affected, pop-ready vocals.

The first track to be unleashed is ‘Primary Function’, which sounds like a dubbed-out Boards of Canada on a particularly warped mushroom trip.

Timothy’s music has brought us many special moments over the past few summers and seems bound to do so again, with the new EP already getting played by the likes of Optimo, Lena Willikens and Andrew Weatherall.

After cutting his teeth as one half of Eskimo Twins, Clerkin launched his solo career in 2014 under the now-retired Heretic moniker. Having released on labels including Throne of Blood, Hard Fist and Tusk Wax, he’s since graduated to running his own Insult To Injury imprint from his new base in Amsterdam.

In all the excitement of announcing C.A.R.'s second album on Ransom Note Records, we overlooked the incredible remix of 'Sore Loser' from Manie Sans Délire's Trenton Chase. Stripping back most of the vocals, he morphs the track into a hypnotic wave cut, propped up by driving synth lines. Crossing Prior Street will be released on 27th March with further remixes from the likes of Radioactive Man, Trenton Chase and Anna Wall...

C.A.R. (Choosing Acronyms Randomly) is a musical project conceived by Chloé Raunet, a multi-faceted creative living in London. Her self-confessed crush on too many genres results in a unique blend of glacial electronica, post-punk and warming, introspective pop. 

Following three albums on iconic, queer Parisian label Kill The DJ and UK’s Ransom Note, the live act now consists of herself and Joni Green. This latest combination champions female empowerment, injecting fresh energy and hype into the show. Together, they are building a reputation for pulsing, magnetic, sweaty and unforgettable performances. 

December marked another excursion into uncharted territory with the release ‘avant pop masterpiece’, Anzu. More new songs are tricking their way into the set, and C.A.R.'s next LP is on the near horizon.

A fan of the weirder edges of electronic music, Chloé also DJs and hosts the monthly 'On The Slip Road' show on NTS Radio.
