As often extensively touring as he is on the quest for new sounds (‘the iron fence in front of the studio’, ‘the wooden door in the toilet’ among other samples), or building instruments from scratch with his pals (see Modular Organ System), Phillip Sollmann’s experimental zeal underscores a conceptual framework that reveals a collage of influences as broad as Basic Channel, Francis Bacon, Japan or the room he’s sitting in. This often amounts to smooth and genre-busting segues on Dial, Curle and Ostgut Ton. He who’s become an absolute gem trader over the years through a string of epoch-making efforts, including the time-proof masterpiece that is “Decay” in 2014, drops by to grace us with a mesmeric Xmas tale by way of waving goodbye to 2022. Extruding elements of techno deepness out their usual cast to mingle them with that exploratory, jazz-inflected approach of his - subtly pairing the lingering beauty of stretched-out synths with that of free-flowing 4x4 grooves and haunting melodies, Efdemin entices us on a path of delectably focused and flavourful techno sensibility. An absolute pleasure and honour for us to round off 2022 in such good company.
