Guided Meditation For Interdimensional Astral Travel (Ft. Bug)

Inspired by a city romance, ’Night Shift' is a UK garage track that is at once sentimental and full of club energy. Bass music and breakbeat are seldom associated with intimacy, but Minev’s latest composition manages to capture the hazy euphoria of mutual attraction that one feels during the preludes of a relationship. Night Shift features lyrics that are personal and full of evocative imagery which feels fitting for Minev’s vocal debut whilst the recognisable sound of his synth-heavy instrumentals frames track in a distinctly urban setting.

“I wanted to create something that recreated the dreamy buzz that I felt when I first met my partner. I also wanted to capture the distinctly London vibe of the girl I was falling in love with, and I wanted to evoke the blissful feeling of staying up through the night and experiencing the dawn with a new ally. I suppose Night Shift is a kind indie electronica equivalent of a love poem.”

"Daydream" expresses the feeling of monotony in one's life. It is easy to get lost in daily routines. Going through the same motions every single day can cause one to lose their sense of self, and their sense of individuality. It becomes difficult to look at yourself in the mirror knowing that you aren't living your life the way you have always wanted to. It seems to be that the only place where one can truly be themselves is in their daydreams.

Composed and performed by DD (Friday 30th October 2020) and Luis Rigou (circa 2015)

for this junto challenge "Record a piece of music that moves back and forth between two inhospitable zones before finding one, à la Goldilocks and the Three Bears, that is just right."


I made a parallel accompaniment for a discarded quena (south-american indian flute) performed years ago by my friend the great Luis Rigou.
Completely removed the old acoustic  tracks/accompaniment and made a "comfort" one ( a tame groove of pizz strings samples and upright bass C minor pentatonic) and an uncomfortably one (C diminished performed on dystopian orchestral samples and a different flute performed on a different key)

The final mix goes back and forth from the comfort and the disturbing track.
