El sonido Graveton tiene su origen a finales de 2010 en los estudios caseros de djs y productores de países de todo el mundo. Producciones analógicas o digitales de baja calidad pero con mucho ingenio a la hora de usar los ritmos de la cumbia y el reggaeton para procesarlos con samples del folclore andino, colombiano y mexicano. Con los años y los avances tecnológicos las producciones iban adquiriendo mayor calidad en cuanto a sonido y a contenido artístico. Aunque siempre hay excepciones, los más radicales y ortodoxos que aún conservan la manera primigenia de producir y ejecutar piezas de graveton. Es lo que se conoce como graveton lofi o graveton casero.

En la actualidad decenas de artistas siguen produciendo graveton en sus estudios, centenares de djs lanzan tracks de graveton en cientos de clubs de todo el mundo y miles de personas bailan graveton cada semana en las pistas de baile de diferentes clubs, fiestas locales o cualquier tipo de evento con carácter festivo o cultural.
Etimológicamente graveton proviene del sonido de frecuencia baja o grave, en inglés bass, y el sufijo ton del mismo sufijo que en reggaeton. Al ser producto de una mala producción el prefijo grave señala ese carácter desafortunado de la obra.
Desambiguación. Graveton (Creative Commons - 2011) También es el nombre de la primera referencia de la disquera online Caballito Netlabel y está dio lugar a posteriores entregas, Graveton II (Creative Commons - 2012), Graveton 3 (Creative Commons - 2012) y Graveton IV (Creative Commons - 2015)

Behind MEXA’s recent success is the dual roles played by the label owners, Louie Fresco and Alexx Rubio. For the label’s latest outing, it’s Rubio himself who takes the reins, as he teams up with Mr.Fresco for a release that’s typical of the label: different, intriguing, eclectic and stunning from the first beat to the last.

It’s the majestic title-track that opens the EP, with its varied synths and its washy pads stirring up a track that joins the dots between home and club listening with distinction. A real tightrope walker, its straddles the genres but keeps our attention firmly intact thanks to its many unlikely tones – with even an electric guitar finding favour.

The first of three remixes arrives thanks to German producer Marc Poppcke. Poppcke opts for a different approach, with an intense range of percussion and a muffled, almost convoluted bassline among its prime moments. Daring but effective - it’s indicative of Poppcke at his most devastating.

Maher Daniel (another producer who’s really come to prominence of late), lets the drums do the talking on his off-kilter remix, before Nicola Cruz leads us on a late-night journey down the rabbit hole that’s filled with hypnotic melodies, whirling melodies and a multilayered vocal that breathes a tangible human edge into the track. It’s gorgeous stuff – and a fitting finale to a truly spectacular effort.

A 30-minute mix of “cumbia cumbia, not nueva cumbia” from January 2013. My man Talacha gets on the mic as sonidero. 

I used all cumbias purchased in Brooklyn , so it skews heavily towards cumbias poblanas, mexican cumbias, tunes made in the States. Shoutouts include: Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, New Jersey, Virginia, Baltimore, Las Carolinas, Ellay… kinda functions as a map of where Mexicans are strong in the US! There’s no tracklist but that’s OK because everyone is always shouting out their name anyhow...

Cumbias Sonideras! Vol 1, es el producto del trabajo empecinado de Arturo Herrera DJ, que persigue hacer estallar la pista de baile, sin espacios para la cumbia que sólo se escucha. Inspirado en los bailes sonideros de la Ciudad de México hizo una selección de tracks con un sonido particular para luego imaginar a cientos de personas bailándolas. 

La Campanera, El Pájaro Cenzontle, Llorando se fue y La Cumbia del Sol (de Los Mirlos), son de las mejores cumbias que se han hecho para bailar a juicio de Arturo Herrera DJ, la cuales dan vida a este Ep. Quedando a la espera de ver la aceptación por parte de la audiencia para evaluar otro trabajo con más de estas sabrosas cumbias.

“El sonido de Caballito refleja el calor, la alegría, las raíces, las ganas de mover el culo, el sudor, la buena onda...”
Caballito da a luz en una cálida Granada en septiembre de 2010, fruto del reencuentro entre Bigote y Grita, dos auténticos exploradores y recicladores de los ritmos latinoamericanos.
Pioneros en nuestro país en esta corriente ElecTropical que poco a poco va invadiendo todo el globo, empiezan sus andadas publicando varias mixtapes en su propia web y en distintos blogs del subterráneo movimiento. Pronto decidirían ilustrar sus mezclas con una explosión de gifs animados, vídeos y colores estridentes y muy chillones (creados por ellos, son también apasionados de la imagen), creando así un entorno psicodélico, divertido y uniforme. Fue entonces cuando Grita y Bigote decidieron lanzarse a la producción estableciendo su propio netlabel, siguiendo la línea de la licencia libre (Creative Commons). De esta forma, todo lo publicado en Caballito, ya sean producciones suyas o de otros artistas, fluye libremente por la red.

Caballito is born in Granada, in September 2010, when Daniel aka Bigote and David aka Grita meet again. It was a while since these two guys were checking out traditional Latino-American rhythms and discovering the Digital Cumbia, new Tropical style emerging all around the world.
Caballito, pioneer in our Country within this musical current, started publishing mixtapes in his own web and in different blogs, with the intention of breaking our hips. But quickly this world was too small for them, so they started to flood us with videos and psychedelic gifs. Was at that time when Grita y Bigote jumped into production creating their own netlabel, whose phylosophy follow the free licence idea. All the stuff published - their own productions and the collaborators’ ones - all flow freely through the web.
