The fourth edition's midnight vultures of the eponymous cassette label (Midnight Vultures Mixtapes), Stefhanja and Tobin traversed church bells and picked up golden flutes to string along bewitching hours with rumbling darkness and peculiar murmurs, tearing strips from cold and misty dreams. 2 hours of a midnight flight around all that's bizarre and fragile, moody and erratic.

His music has been mixing for the last 20 years shades of classic IDM with synthetic computer funk, depth charge bass drops, steel plated beats and concrete sound manipulation. It is approximately what you should expect sonically from this monthly rendez-vous.

Originally from Paju South Korea, bela (they/them) is a musician
and a performance artist based in Berlin. They are known for
electronic music performance merging pungmul - a Korean folk act
rooted in agricultural traditions and linked to past social
movements - and vocals inspired by extreme metal. bela shapes
pungmul into the ritual for queer rage and grief with sub-heavy
distortions and cries.

Since moving to Berlin in the autumn of 2022, bela has been
announced as a participant of SHAPE+ Platform 23'-24'. They have
presented their work across different stages in Europe including
Berghain, Trauma Bar und Kino, Schauspielhaus Zürich, Cafe OTO,
A4 Bratislava among many others. They have performed in
experimental music festivals CTM Festival(DE), Ephemera(PL),
Unsound Kraków(PL), and Rewire Festival(NL). They also
participated in European art festivals transmediale(DE) and EVA
International(IE). bela is a co-runner of Sorrow Club: a mixed event
series spanning from music to non-music.

This is a collaboration of the SHAPE+ platform for innovative music and interdisciplinary art, co-funded by the European Union.

JUAN & LE TARIKO MAGIQUE w/ JUAN TARIKO (30/01/24)

Ken Ikeda pushes his multi-faceted electronic dream music skyward in this dizzying new release. Compiled at home using a selection of dub based fx components and improvised techniques, Ken splashes collapsing waves of digital synthesis against one another, creating moments of crescendo before pulling the plug and letting the sounds drain out completely. In between each small cyclical movement Ken enters wandering phrases that blip and bob, as if his electronic space station is caught in free fall, teetering on the edge of lost transmission. There's a timeless feeling to this 27 minutes - the sort of thing you can imagine aliens discovering somewhere alongside Morton Subotnick's 'Silver Apples of Moon' and thinking, "hey, do you think they know about us?"

As you can imagine we are under huge pressure at the moment and are working flat out to ensure Cafe OTO survives this. Cafe OTO opened in April 2008 with the aim of providing a home for creative new music that exists outside of the mainstream. It comprises one large cafe/performance space open during the day serving food and drink with an evening programme of live music almost seven nights a week. 

OTOROKU is part of OTOProjects - a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) that has been set up to manage the programme at Café Oto. Any profits from OTOROKU are put back into supporting what we do and will help us to continue programming the best musicians and performers from all over the world.
