Here is my recording of my chill set at Babylon 2019.

There is a fair bit of exploration across genres in this one, creating a somewhat disjointed approach which I have done to give the impression of the abrupt & vast nature of transient tangental emotional states. 

I don't know how many words there are for various types of human emotions in the English language. In our common everyday vocabulary, there is probably about a hundred, from something crude like hungry all the way to more abstract concepts such as pensive or dreamy. Maybe English doesn't have enough words, but for most practical proposes, it looks like we have more than enough to go about our daily life. But these emotions still give only approximations of what they are actually like. Part of this is just because language can never capture an actual experience. For example, you may have used the expression knock kneed, but that doesn't quite describe what it feels like to actually be so afraid your knees are knocking together.

But even dealing with such mundane human emotions as hunger, it is hard to describe what is actually going on, because the emotion exists as a ratio between two things. That is, it is a relationship between the person who wants the food, and the food itself. The subjective experience of hunger is a third part of the equation. So to say you are hungry is misleading, since there are really three related phenomena going on.

Now, hunger is a simple emotion. Emotions like love are not. Often we will say something like "I want someone", we actually mean something like "I want this person to want me to want them.” On a normal level, we don't need to know the precise value of these things, just like for normal purposes .2679491924 makes a perfectly adequate tangent of 15 degrees. However, the actual tangent of 15 degrees can actually be described by a number of formulas that involve taking ratios of numbers that are already radicals. The true tangent of 15 degrees is (1-cos30)/sin30. By itself, this isn't that much of a problem, but when you pass this from equation to equation, and do hundreds of these problems, the inaccuracies begin to pile up, and soon the answer is totally wrong.

Philosophical researchers should be just as careful that they keep the entire emotion in mind, and not just the common everyday decimal approximation of the emotion. If a philosopher wants to know what "love" is, he should pass all the aspects of what it means to feel love, and be loved, and be a lover, through the equation, and only then will we be able to accurately describe what human emotions are; because unlike persistent affective states such as mood, emotions are generally conceived as transient events of physiological, motivational, and psychological changes that have a definite cause, a distinctive cognitive and experiential content, and a rapid decay after elicitation. Some studies using EEG have characterised the temporal unfolding of brain responses to emotional events and pointed to differential dynamics at the timescale of the second for different emotions.

When it comes to emotion regulation it is all about a process directed toward achieving desired emotions. People want to experience different emotions at different times and for different reasons, leading them to change emotions accordingly through transient tangencies. Research on desired emotions has made several discoveries. First, what people want to feel varies across individuals and across situations. Second, what people want to feel depends on how much they value emotions and on the extent to which they expect emotions to yield behavioural, social, or epistemic benefits. Third, what people want to feel sets the direction of emotion regulation and can shape emotional experiences and subsequent behaviour. Identifying and understanding desired emotional states can promote healthier emotion regulation and emotional experiences, and more adaptive personal and social functioning.

2020 has been purgatory, if not straight up hell.
I have been through so much and done so little.

Wanted to take you on a journey through my emotions with this one.
Really struggled to bring together some of the tunes cohesively but hey, if anything was going to showcase how I have been feeling - that in itself should do the trick.

Bringing in this weeks intercept is another cracker of an artist, WISER.

WISER has been bringing Melbourne a fresh take on the harder side of techno for some time now and we are absolutely stoked to have an example displayed here with us.
With a love for heavy kicks, driving bass lines and a vast variety of mind twisting synth over tones, WISER's sets have brought an atmosphere to our dance floors that is nothing short of incredible.
This techno connoisseur has taken her love for creating a thriving dance floor experience and broadened her sights onto the hosting side of events.
WISER is the founder and curator of newly established events label "Dazed HDT"
Beginning with a benchmark as what has become infamous intimate parties held at Revolver Upstairs & BONEY, the Dazed events to come are sure to be something the you wouldn't want to miss out on.

WISER has a lot in store for us in the future, and we are super keen to see what she cooks up, We'll especially be looking forward to her 6 track EP to be released on Imminatia Records in early 2021!

Intercept #28 - WISER

Born in Auckland New Zealand, Caine Sinclair has spent most of his child and adult years growing up in what he considers his home town Melbourne Australia. 

Safe to say his Polynesian roots had much influence in the style of music he listened to, with a love in particular for Hip hop and Reggae. His passion for music extended into mastering the strings of the bass guitar whilst playing in a band throughout his adolescent years.
His first set of Technics turntables were given as a birthday present not long after he finished high school. Equipped with decks and a pioneer mixer, Caine began to develop his Dj skills. He educated himself by watching performances by Local and International Djs circulating the Melbourne scene at the time.
A defining moment where Caine’s flavour in music had shifted; he distinctly recalls the first proper techno track heard was in a friend’s car playing on repeat (Pannik by Speedy-J), from that moment on he was hooked.

At the pinnacle of Melbourne’s Techno scene, Caine intently pursued this new sound, intrigued by those he and many considered to be at the core of Techno at the time – Ben Sims, Speedy-J, Jeff Mills, Adam Beyer, Joel Mull, Marco Carola, and Carl Cox, just to name a few. Caine’s first gig was for Melbourne Techno Collective in the early 2000's. MTC was a regular techno haven for up and coming local talent. Caine also took part in the trend of supporting local djs and ran his own night called "Revival". 

Caine soon established a name in the market and his credentials were substantiated by an ongoing list of support to iconic international djs that toured Melbourne such as; Carl Cox, Dubspeeka, Drumcomplex, Ben Sims, Chris Leibing, Surgeon, Sandwell District, Carlo Lio, Stacey Pullen, Steve Mulder, Redshape, Marcel Dettman, Ben Klock, Alex Smoke, Kenny Larkin, Robert Hood, Derrick May, Robert Babiz, Stephan Bodzin, Slam, Nick Curly, James Zabiela, Omar S, Derrick Carter, and Kazu Kimura.
Although it is hard to deny and conform to the world of advanced technology, Caine remains loyal to the traditional art of Djing, he utilises a combination of turntables and CDJs to remain truthful of the old school methods.

They say a bass guitarist is the foundation of any band so playing a good bass groove can make or break a song. Caine puts to use, those same taught skills to every performance – hand co-ordination, stamina and a musical foundation to which a crowd relies on the perfect tune…
