Excited to unleash this new ‘Spacial Cumbia’ mixtape from DJ and producer René Gamez aka Skruper Sounds / SSDSS (Mexico / Global Bass Berlin) who is one half of the influential German-based independent music platform Kúmbale. 

Their mission is to serve as an underground runway between Latin America and Europe.  What started as a pun – “Cumbia Mapalé = Kumbale” – evolved into a sound system that is right now focusing on publishing compilations and championing new and exciting music from Latin America.

End of year show with some non comprehensive end of year selections plus indulging my love of the music from Bahia with music from Oquadro, Banana system and a tribute to the late Leiteres Leite. There’s also tributes to sadly departed Colombian musicians Abelardo Carbono and Michi Sarmiento.
Plus some new music that very much fits in the best of 2021 selection from La Perla, Lagartijeando DJ Farrapo remixed by Caribombo, New music from Brazilian group D’agua negra and two of my favourites from 2021 Lara Nuh remixing Renata Flores.

About this journey :
Forró is declared intangible heritage of Brazil 
In the ups and downs of the Selarón stairs in the old center of Rio de Janeiro, a mixture of metals, percussions, flutes, triangles and voices express the effervescence of the people, like bubbles of gases mixing and floating. The "cortejos" returned with sounds by Luiz Gonzaga, João do Vale, Clara Nunes, Mariana Aydar, Dona Onete, Gilberto Gil and several other names "pé de serra".
The selection "Cortejo do Amor" brings a mix of forró classics with the new generation and among other regional grooves such as Carimbó, Pife, Maracatu and Brasilidades.

It's to start dancing together and end up in vuco vuco.

Cal Jader runs through another selection of future and classic Latin and Tropical sounds - starting with some Latin Amapiano vibes from Vhoor and Biomigrant meets El Búho moving into some more electronic sounds from Ecuador with new tracks from Quixosis and Kaifo, bass heavy cuts from Carthnage and Dana Lu plus Cumbia from Felipe Orjuela and Fran G, incredible new Andean sounds from Luzmila Carpio and going more downtempo with Balthvs and Granfergo. Plus Cal is joined in the studio by singer / producer (and now DJ) Pao Pestana as well as Mexican / French DJ Sabor a Mi who drops a fire guest mix in the final 30.

Cal Jader is one of the musical activists behind London Latin cultural protagonists Movimientos and co-host of one of London's finest tropical / global bass parties Love Carnival. With his trademark blend of latin beats, carnival rhythms and fresh global sounds he is helping to soundtrack London's underground music scene with regular sets across the capital, as well as around the UK and Europe. 
He's also played at clubs and festivals around the globe as far afield as Mexico City, Beirut, Bogota, Kuala Lumpar, Istanbul, and a 10 date tour all around Brazil in Rio, Salvador, Brasilia and at carnival in Recife. In the UK he's played everywhere from festivals like Bestival and Glastonbury as well as closing WOMAD in Fuerteventura, and has shared stages with world class live acts like Manu Chao, Bomba Estereo, Novalima, and Calle 13 as well as Chico Trujillo and La Yegros. He continues to champion the new generation of producers from Latin American and has played alongside the likes of El Búho, Chancha Via Circuito, DJ Raff, Kaleema and Uji.
