After receiving renewed attention with the reissue of a selection of his early works on Dutch label 'Into The Light Records', Vangelis Katsoulis offers an 8 track LP and 12 track CD album aptly entitled “If Not Now When,” for Alex Bradley’s Utopia Records imprint.

The Avant Garde movement largely influenced Katsoulis’ early works after which he turned to minimalism, applying elements of jazz and rock into the genre. Since the 80s, the use of technology has become present is his compositions, whist not diminishing the importance of the human factor and the creative involvement of the performer.

Today he is striving for simplicity, trying to express the most, using the least, providing the context for this release. From the subtle ambience of title track “If Not Now When", to the intense and confronting sound on “All The Blue Skies", Katsoulis and his accompanying musicians deliver a diverse and contemporary work with a level of sophistication that will challenge the current electronic musical landscape. The purity of sound in stand out track ‘Tore’ is juxtaposed by the dark and gritty “Grand Delusions”, a remarkably modern composition which sounds like it has been composed for a Berlin Techno club, from a man we suspect has never been to one. 'Slipping Beauties', the most revered of Katsoulis' back catalogue is given an organic and intelligent reinterpretation for 2016. The haunting and provocative vocal performance by Anna Linardou on ‘Zarrin' leads the record down an even more emotive and provocative paths....

Estonian archival label Frotee is honoured to welcome Estonian electronic music pioneer Sven Grünberg to its discography. Frotee releases a 24-track compilation featuring Grünberg's work for 10 animated films and 1 puppet-play, all music is previously unreleased on any physical format. Therefore, the release of "Anima 1977-2001" can be considered as a notable contribution to the acclaimed soundtrack composer's discography that hopefully cheers up the audiences who have been waiting for this issue to be released. 

Regardless of the fact that he still continues writing and recording music for films, the latest recording, that was included to this compilation, was made in year 2001.

The selected tracks cover a full musical spectrum from electronic music to more classical works of Sven Grünberg. He has never put out any of his musical pieces that are strictly ‘experimental’, even though he can be introduced as the first composer in Estonia, who has been using electronic soundscapes in his music already since mid-70s. However, synthesizers were always mixed with natural instruments. On this compilation you can hear both ideas that pull off as fully fleshed-out and complete compositions to some excerpts or more rough ideas he would re-use later on for bigger works. For example using organ for “Klaabu” or wordless scat vocals for “Linalakk ja Rosalind” become later known as his main trademarks that he also used on his first solo album "Hingus" as well on the soundtrack of a sci-fi feature film “Dead Mountaineer's Hotel” based on a novel written by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky.

For our sixth release, Parang Recordings is proud to present our first various artists compilation EP, featuring both emerging and established talents with a range of sounds from diverse backgrounds.
 
Lil Sorry and Lord of Leisure, both producers from Offenbach whose work has appeared on some of our favorite house labels, showcase Offenbach’s established deep house vibe with their contributions veering towards the gentle, the sublime, and the melodic. The understated dub influences in Lil Sorry’s ‘High Noon’ help to disguise its brisk tempo, further submerged by foregrounding of textured pads and wayward electronics that take center stage on this subdued groove. Lord of Leisure’s ‘Coffee N Chups’ is a sunrise house groover powered by funky bass and choppy hat and snare combos that keep the drive over sustained pads and a deep, repeating melody.
 
Shifting scenes to the UK for Manchester’s Spin Fidelity, a newly established name from releases on Barcelona’s revered Subwax, we find the toughest offering, a Detroit-inspired gem that lands solidly in the morning slot.

Rounding out the VA we have the head of London’s Rube Goldberg Series, Bowyer, who has so far remained mostly on his own imprint and is the freshest face here. His ‘Livelovelaugh’ closes the EP with its brightest offering, all melodic bassline, sunny keyboards, and worked vocal snippets with a punchline vocal at dramatic points to reinforce its uplifting demeanor.

Viers rolls through with a unique 4-track, club oriented EP entitled ‘Innocence’ for Typeless. After some previously highly acclaimed releases, the Leeds based artist reinforces his supremacy with a fiercely diverse electronic voyage.


‘EVA00’ on the A side offers up a hybrid electro-breaks infused sound with rolling basslines and euphoric melodies, encapsulating yet to be heard futuristic club cuts. Whilst ‘Douglas Descend’ adheres to a more classically punchy techno sonic with hypnotic kicks and a protruding industrial snare. B-Side’s ‘Innocence’ is a dark bass-heavy electro track that is masterfully mind-bending. The EP is then rounded off by the warehouse inspired track entitled ‘LSD’, reminiscent of big room rave settings of the 90’s.

Banoffee Pies Records drop the 13th release in the original series. This VA entitled "Common Ground" is a crossover of influences from 4 artists with a selection of tracks all above 150bpm from producers of a similar generation giving a nod to their youth and early musical journeys, largely inspired by Drum & Bass and Jungle raves across the UK.

The release divided in two with a Dark A side and Light B side offering two moods of liquidity. The opening track "Class Of '92" comes from Leeds based Lisene, one half of the Space Cadets duo, with previous releases on Seven Hill Records and more. The A2 from Bristol based Hartta offers a more spooked bass heavy cut with "Hauntology".

The B side begins with title track "Common Ground", an ode to dusted jungle and liquid drum & bass from another Leeds head Sourpuss, known for running the Stretchy Dance Supply parties. The last track on the disc "Vapour" comes from Manchester's Interplanetary Criminal. With his UKG EP "Move Tools" on BP010 landing on the label and many dance floors at the end of 2019, this nostalgic drum scattered jungle cut stylishly closes off the compilation. Limited Press.
