haiku #407: quickening wind / every leaf of the turning maple / in tune

A series of pieces mostly created for the Naviar Records weekly Haiku challenge; seven days to compose a piece in response to the poem posted. Each of these pieces uses the same basic palette of sounds, in my head I had the idea of a traditional brass band playing very different pieces than they would usually, a kind of post-rock brass band. Each track uses Audiomodelling's SWAM Brass instruments for the lead parts.

Post-Rock Brass Band

Experimenting with Audio Modelling's SWAM software. The main instruments I used were SWAM Flugelhorn, Tenor-Trombone and Bass trombone. My basic concept for these pieces is to take the sound of a brass band and put it in a more post-classical/post-rock context.

August Morning Rain

A piece for Naviar Records' weekly haiku challenge; seven days to produce a response to a haiku posted. In this track I use Audio Modelling's SWAM Trumpet, Flugelhorn, Tenor Trombone and Bass Trombone along with some other sample libraries.

Such Still Waters (naviarhaiku399) - Adrian Lane

A track for Naviar Records' weekly haiku challenge; 7 days in which to write a piece of music in response to the haiku poem posted. I started with a field recording I made of the Cicadas at Magoksa temple in South Korea. I then used Audio Modelling's SWAM trumpet, and piccolo trumpet to try to suggest the build up of the noise the cicadas make. I also used Audio Modelling's Flugelhorn and Bass trombone for the melody lines.

Hi and welcome to the 5th track by "Then She Reaches For The Gun". Huge thanks to all the artists involved…. so much variety, craziness, originality and musicianship.

The project’s inspiration is two fold: Firstly its a homage to some of the stuff i grew up listening to like Mr. Bungle and other noisy bastards where anything goes, and often in quick fire succession and secondly it’s a chance to work with an never ending stream of talented musicians that i have known for years either in real life Australia or via the Internet. Each track has changed of course, depending of who has sent me what.

This piece is titled “When all this is over I am off To Madrid to seek mentorship In the traditional art of Pet Flamenco"


Its starting point was a wonderful field recording sent to me by Raöulfr Maganhar of him teaching Flamenco singing to his cat Yoda and his dog  Hacho, its gorgeous and hilarious as both respond vocally. The madness organically expanded either side of the file from there.

The process is simple, I collect a bunch of random recordings from people and then see what i can arrange from it. Nothing subtle here, just huge noisy fun : ) I am open to anyone that thinks they might like to be part of this mess. Drop me a message and i will send you my email. The only criteria is that i wont be using samples from TV/film/other music etc, so just original stuff played on instruments, field recordings, stupid drunk conversations etc.

A track for Naviar Records weekly haiku challenge, seven days in which to respond to the poem posted. A very short piece to represent a sudden burst of rain in winter. I used Audio Modelling's SWAM trumpet, Flugelhorn and Tuba for the lead lines. Musically it is also inspired by the work of renaissance composer, William Byrd.

The Turning Maple (naviarhaiku407)

A track for Naviar Records weekly Haiku challenge; seven days in which to produce a piece in response to the haiku posted. For the lead brass instruments I used Audiomodelling's SWAM Flugelhorn and Eb Flugelhorn. I also experimented with some live percussion playing my Korean Jangu. My idea was that the wind instruments represent the wind of the poem and the percussion, the falling leaves.
