Up and coming British house artist Amy Dabbs takes us on a journey through the house music galaxy, pulling influences from the past while propelling us into the future with her latest release ‘Girl Like Me’ released on Distant Horizons, a sub-label of London mainstay Lobster Theremin. 

The four track EP encapsulates the vision and virtues of classic house, reflecting elements from Amy's musical upbringing, infusing influences from Motown through to early house, and simultaneously instilling whispers of 80s and 90s soul that formed the building blocks of the modern day house sound. 

Opening track ‘Girl Like Me’ sets the tone with a vibrant pace and rhythmic precision. Illustrating life’s ups and downs, it’s a true testament to the power of positivity and nurtures the ever-present possibility of enrichment in our lives, even through hard times. 

‘Mellowday’ is a classic Detroit house number infused with touches of jazz. It’s sublimely uplifting, a feel-good tune with an exquisite sound pallett and vibey vocals.The positive energy of the track and the title itself are inspired by her adopted rescue dog, Melody. 

‘No More Distractions’ shouts-out to the old skool. Cited by Amy as “inspirations” in her musical career, musical legends such as Larry Heard and Metro Area are paid homage to in this track with a revitalised use of the Juno 106, remembering sounds in an 80s-into-90s style epic encounter. Lastly, ‘The Player’ is a pure complement to the end of the night, lifting you up with its soaring pads whilst grounding you with the lyrics of the spoken word. Lyrically relatable and a groove to end on. This is a tune to mend your wings and fly to.

Michael Cignarale is an iconic new young legend of the queer underground: co-founder and resident DJ at Medusa (one of China's longest-running queer parties and record labels), creative director at Shanghai-based queer design studio WAVE, and shapeshifting vocalist known for their glitter-drenched visage and underground club hits like 2021's “She Takes Me Over”. Gome are a Hamburg-based duo known for their releases on Toy Tonics, their unique take on '90s-influenced house, and the musicianship of their all-hardware live sets.Together, Michael Cignarale & gome have turned in two epic house bangers — chuggy, jackin', future anthems anchored by rugged Chicago-inspired percussion and Michael's sultry vocals. Every now and then there were ripples in the water, they were ever so slight and faint but they were there nonetheless. The sounds of the garden illuminated the quiet evening, a chorus of life amidst what would be another quite land.

The sun was setting in the distance, casting a hazy pink glow atop everything below. It would rise again tomorrow to bring forth a new day but for now its day was done.

He sat and watched all of this by the pond. The lyra and the lily pads blowing softly in the breeze.

This is a fine piece of bubbly house music which will work well on fast paced dancefloors. Like being in space surrounded by bubbles or lost in a ball pit, or something else a bit like that. All very good fun.

The second chapter of Mood Waves’ Digital Moods series finds the label crew and close affiliates navigating the smoother side of their sonic spectrum - though “smooth” here comes with the subtext of late-night mischief. Five tracks, five angles, yet a shared thread: music designed for the after-hours mind, whether that’s a living room deep dive or the final stretch of a club marathon. Among the contributions sits a slice of nocturnal hypnosis from one of the label’s own - DJ Tjizza - who uses Astrodome to remind us that sometimes the straightest path to transcendence is the one without any scenic detours.

With "Astrodome", DJ Tjizza strips things to their essentials: an Acid line with purpose, a rhythm that doesn’t waver, and a partly spoken vocal that lands like a coded message from another frequency. The groove is unrelenting, the atmosphere shaded in darker hues, and there’s no sense of playful meandering - Tjizza has you locked in from the first bar and keeps you there, suspended in a bubble where time bends to the beat. It’s a track that thrives in the later hours, when the crowd is less concerned with build-ups and breakdowns, and more attuned to the hypnotic momentum of a well-aimed groove.

With "Astrodome", DJ Tjizza delivers a distilled statement of intent that fits seamlessly into "Digital Moods 02’s" deep-flowing aesthetic while adding that edge of after-hours bite. It’s Mood Waves’ crew at their best - personal, precise, and perfectly tuned for the heads who know that the real magic often happens long after the night begins.
