The Meierkord family came by to say hello to us in this month of July. Henrik and I took the opportunity to play something together. Nothing demanding: a sort of 'warm up', which has become a 'session' in my small living room. We mostly used some 'loops' I had on my JamMan, improvising over them, or even more freely. The recordings are quite 'lo-fi', mainly coming from a dictaphone placed in the center of the room, but we believe they are a good testimony of our musical and human entente and of the pleasure of meeting each other in person. Once upon a trap

Jean Paul Dub / Calyman - I Won't Belong

“Once upon a trap” is a free and accessible collaborative compilation-album produced by the e-label Vaticaen Production. It brings together 19 musicians, dubmakers, singers who participated in the development of this unique project implemented through file exchanges on the internet. Some rec their voices on the instrumental that I had originally composed and others remixed the multitrack that I had posted online. I reworked all of this in my basement for about a year and a half to come up with different versions adapted to all the voices I received. The remixes come from all over the world (Montreal, Saint Petersburg, Palermo, Zagreb, Oslo, Wiesbaden
) and all offer a different vision, sometimes organic like Translippers, ethnic like Jah Billah and Mayeul, or digital dub for Lofi Menta or Bissoman.
We must keep in mind that this production is self-produced and made in a home-studio with resources that are not those of  companies. However, it is developed with the greatest seriousness and maximum energy. “Once upon a trap” results from a collective and participatory dynamic which humbly aims to redefine the listening standards offered by classic media. One of Vaticaen's goals has always been to offer content that offers an alternative channel in opposition to generalized formatting. By discovering anonymous or sometimes recognized artists, Vaticaen highlights the capacities for international artistic collaboration of several musicians in opposition to the lack of solidarity and humanity often too present around us.
This project is only a grain of sand in an infinite desert but it is there, it is free, it is for you.
