Camel Riders Trips 048 - AIWAA

We had been waiting for a long time for this edition with @mettabbana. He is a Kosovo born, Washington DC based DJ, vintage vinyl collector and curator who melds analog and folkloric sounds from Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, the Caribbean, his Balkan homeland and beyond. He has founded a number of global music focused event series and collectives in DC such as the all-vinyl Analog Soul Club, Tropic of Bass, 1001 Beats, and is a resident DJ with the @meso-creso artistic collective. His music styles range from vintage vinyl organic sounds and gritty bass to more modern and subtle interpretations of musical tradition and cross-cultural electronic fusions. 

This particular mix is the third installment of his Kismet series, especially recorded for this 52th edition. The Kismet series was initially conceived as a sunrise set played live on Burning Man Radio a few years ago. This mix as the rest of the series spans a wide spectrum of human emotions with recurring themes of nostalgia, beauty, tradition, pride, rebellion, and playfulness. When you least expect it you will receive a surprise highlighted by this mix. It gets closer and closer to the light that came in through an admirable consistency, enjoyable atmosphere! It is not long before all of you find yourselves walking along a musical-vortex, feel it! As the energy of this podcast stays long even after it has gone, we recommend it to inspire and reveal new flavours and to awaken new sensations.

Kakes is one of those artists who we felt connected to long before even getting to know him personally, his edits for Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's 'Piya re' and 'Aafreen Aafreen' had left a lasting imprint on our hearts without him even knowing. 
Only a month from today's release Khayal aka Kakes got in touch with me via an email saying he loves what we do and wanted to collaborate, reading this was so fulfilling as his work was already big for me and an opportunity to work together was not to be left dangling and here is the result of the universe conspiring in such a sweet fashion.

Khayal here, wants to share his rework for Junoon's track Sajna, first released in the mid 90s was a huge hit in South east Asia and the world. Kakes beautifully melds his soft deep style with the passionate rhythms of Junoon, to find out more simply press play :) and please follow him for more.

Junoon (Urdu: جنون, literally "obsession/passion") is a Sufi rock band from Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan, and Tappan, New York, formed in 1990. The band is directed by founder, lead guitarist and songwriter, Salman Ahmad, who was soon joined by keyboardist Nusrat Hussain , bass guitarist Brian O’Connell and vocalist Ali Azmat. Junoon is Pakistan's and one of South Asia's most successful bands; the Q magazine regarded them as "One of the biggest bands in the world" and The New York Times called Junoon "the U2 of Pakistan"

Temo Sayin, head of the Zurich underground movement «Die Empathie», shows, that music doesn't need to be hectic and cluttered to bring people into ecstasy. His deep, open minded organic sounds take you on an unique journey: Melancholic but not sad, sensitive but not cheesy, powerful but not crazy. Sentimental enough to close the eyes and still uplifting to raise the arms.

The Turkish-Dutch started started his DJ career with illegal events in his hometown Zurich, where he quickly gained a recognition for his sensual sets. It was only a matter of time he was invited to play at the most popular clubs across the city. Today, and if you happen to go out in Zurich, it'll be hard not to cross paths with Temo. He has made quite a name for himself and shares the stage with well known artists as Satori, Rampue, Miyagi and many others.

No FTR is short for No Future: Daniel Monaco wants to represent a trip into an obscure place maybe lost in space maybe doomed in a parallel universe, the drums are sometimes mixed with metallic trashcans alike sounds, melodies suggesting feelings of hope and despair, Sequenced synth bass are mixed with live performed basslines trying to create a muddy yet sharp rolling grooves. Some intentional overdo on the arrangement was made to recall the fullness in sound typical of few old school Italo tracks Daniel Monaco is fond of.
The EP is a Dark Italo concept containing 3 originals and 3 remixes by artists such as Golden Soul Label Boss and unstoppable producer James Rod, Korean artist Shubostar owner of Uju Records known for her Cosmic Touch and also favorite Burning Man Mayan Warrior DJ, Slow Motion label boss Franz Scala pioneer of the new Italian Wave, a true creator and Italo Master.

Ocean Drive Radio is a 80s/90s themed platform from an alternate reality, lost somewhere between the frequencies of a dreamy house and a smooth- jazz radio station. ODR aims to showcase these mood-invoking genres since we believe that, now more than ever, people will be either nostalgic for the carefree past, or longing for that utopian future which was promised with the arrival of mass-consumer technology.  'Escape To Paradise' is their first release, a 15-track Various Artist compilation of disco, deep and lofi house, and 2 of these disco edits will be free to download. The compilation has been made with close friends to the channel, with some of the artists being Dj Hoshino, Tom Vernon, Nightdrive, David Bulay and Ben Lee.
