It was just a few months ago that the Mexican DJ/producer released Aluxes, his first EP on Lumière Noire. 
That record‘s four astounding tracks (complete with a Tolouse Low Trax remix) further re- fined the producer’s approach to dark disco: off-kilter and bordering on the iconoclastic, but always dancefloor oriented. At the same time, the Jalisco native demonstrated how one can very much stand out on the worldwide electronic music scene while remaining faithful to one’s roots, infusing the EP’s hypnotic mid-tempo grooves with haunting incantations to Mayan deities – and other mischievous mythological creatures. 
In keeping with Chloé’s A&R policy, Xu Xu’s two tracks and two remixes continue in the same vein, indulging in off-beat signatures and innovative electronic flourishes, taking the listener on a languid tour of a dense, luxuriant jungle – as if floating on a raft of mysterious percus- sion and hallucinated voices. 
Just like on Vontier’s previous effort, the listener is left with the impression of being slowly taken over by a spell, sinking into a ritual trance prompted by the bewitching chants of Tel Aviv’s Xen (a vocalist who runs in the same circles as Red Axes). 
Vontier doubles down on the electronic hexes with a version of the title track (Otra Version) giving the bold mystical invocation a slightly rougher edge. 
The track also gets the remix treatment from the incredible Roman Flügel (a pioneer of labels Playhouse, Dial and Klang), who has recently put his stamp on tracks by Daniel Avery and  C.A.R. 
The EP concludes with a second original track, Chiquitita On Acid, with its alternately tuned keyboards (a Vontier signature) and whispered vocals that place the listener at the cross- roads of universes, between dawn and dusk, resulting in a lascivious dancefloor groove that is equal parts haunting and hedonistic. 
Just like Xu Xu, Chiquitita’s original version will be part of Iñigo Vontier’s debut album (co- ming to Lumière Noire sometime in the next few months), a full-length that will build upon the young artist’s strengths, bringing his many facets to light.

Darkness, “the polar opposite of brightness, is understood as a lack of illumination or an absence of visible light. Human vision is unable to distinguish colour in conditions of either high brightness or high darkness. In conditions with insufficient light levels, colour perception ranges from achromatic to ultimately black. The emotional response to darkness has generated metaphorical usages of the term in many cultures”. And when it comes to music, dark vibes, like the new work of Braulio Renteria, create an intense and deep experience, forged with ominous pads, grisly FXs, grim synth lines and macabre percussions.

This is the third time the young and promising Mexican DJ and producer “Braulitro” appears on our platform: First with the review of his debut as a producer released on the impressive project Sinchi Collective; second with a powerful and exclusive mixtape in which he allowed us to take a small peek into the universe of his many music influences (SXDNS120). This time, he partners up with another Mexican talent: Luis Fernando Hernandez aka Ludviq, who contributed with an outstanding (and, yes, obscure) remix for the title track Advertencia and is also the founder of Bonkers Records, a label focused on sharing the work of the next generation of producers not only from Mexico but also the world.

Next up in the Sinchi edit series comes our long-time friend @Pedro-Martins-Music . The Portuguese artist is a connoisseur, crate digger and the founder of Karakter Records, an international label and cult dedicated to the hypnotic, rhythmic and intense alternative music.

We think you’ll recognise this one! Releasing back in 1985, it’s a stone cold classic and was written by co-founder Roland Orzabel. Many people assume its about primal therapy treatment but that is not the case…

Orzabel ‘It came out when a lot of people were still worried about the aftermath of The Cold War and it was basically an encouragement to protest."

Whilst co-founder Curt Smith added ‘ "It concerns protest in as much as it encourages people not to do things without actually questioning them. People act without thinking because that's just the way things go in society. So it's a general song, about the way the public accepts any old grief which is thrown at them."

So as it was in 1985, so it is today. Political or not, enjoy this fantastic 2020 rework.
