It has become so clear to see 
that my life's out of my control.
I can't find a way to break the chains
that poison this old soul.

Though I try with all my might
to play by rules I did not write,
hope fades outta sight
in this failing light.

That eerie feeling that I get
as all that's me just slips away.
Like a sucker punch to my gut
causing white to fade to gray.

If it were God's plan that I should suffer
day thru endless day?
Ya know I'd suck it up
like a Dixie cup.

I know I can be
just as strong
as you need.

For now
I'll retreat
because this pain
is all I see.

I'm gonna let those melancholy feelings
wash all over me.
Because the way that things are going lately
has brought me to my knees.

I'll let it wash away the pain
like a gentle Summer rain.
Maybe heal my soul.
Make what's shattered whole.

And when the knock comes on the door
I'll let em think that I'm away.
Because there ain't no way to put to words
those things I'll never say.

Seems the more I try to fight,
turn the wrongs again to right,
that hope fades out of sight
into the lonely nights
fading light.

that my body's failing me.
So all apologies
while I seek serenity.

Finally end this crushing pain
