The DifferentSound Podcast #284 welcomes Sunil Sharpe! Sunil Sharpe is one of techno's true people. Known primarily for his fast-moving, skilful style and dynamic selections on the decks, Sunil has carved out a unique place in the global scene, representing electronic music in a range of different ways over the years - as a DJ, producer, label owner, party organiser, radio host, writer, educator and nightlife advocate. Sunil's reputation as a "turntable wizard" is long established from his early days as a DJ in Dublin (when local competition was fierce and word of mouth meant everything). Enjoy this live recording from just a week ago when Sunil played cult West Cork music venue Connolly's of Leap (established 1790). Full blast.

Next up comes a long-time torchbearer of the Naples techno scene. Gaetano Parisio first came to attention under the pseudonym Gaetek, and released a string of records on labels like Planet Rhythm and Primate Recordings that quickly found their way into the collections of esteemed selectors like Dave Clarke and Jeff Mills. That was the 90s, and as the new millennium broke he donned his own name and funnelled his creative energies into releasing record upon record under several (of his own) manifestations of imprint: CONFORM the first, followed by ART (Advanced Techno Research), SOUTHSOUL and ADAGIO. With his trusty three/four-turntable, two-mixer set-up he kept up a regular touring schedule and authored many memorable nights, pushing a syncretic brand of Techno that took influence from the wealth of peers around him. Ultimately, the pace of output and the demands of DJ life were anything but light, and so it was that 2007 put a pause to his activity. But after a ten year break he moved to Barcelona, set up a new studio and has been cooking up his usual frenzied productions since. Much as before, his gritty, unfettered loops wear the unmistakable guise of his earlier CONFORM releases, and carry a sheer momentum that’s a surefire bet til the end of the night, if not much longer. Bassiani Podcast 207 is a window onto Gaetano’s vision; circling basslines that charge headlong with no hesitation, pure, driving techno, recorded live at Kvanchi’s Curated by Resident night on the Bassiani floor back in January.

Berlin-based Inox Traxx is quickly gaining attention as a DJ and producer. Her first release on Overbalance in 2019 showcased her distinct sound, often including dark choir-like vocals over icy synths, all following a minimalistic, hard hitting groove. On her Indicators EP released last year, she uses many of the same elements, but also created a more hypnotic feel with bleeping modular sounds that slowly oscillate in and out.

As a DJ, she plays in line of her own productions, favoring minimalistic hard hitting kick drums, dystopian vocals and minimalistic percussion patterns. In this mix, she only showcases her own productions.

Perhaps one of techno’s best kept secrets these days, London born-and-raised groove manipulator Cressida isn’t your typical merchant of quality 4x4 smack. His sound, nurtured on a variety of genres and approaches - from jungle to grime and dubstep (which he keeps on repping through his mixes), flexes a different signature than most, insanely versatile and consistently busting the frontiers between normative frameworks. Hopping on board our podcast series with a massive treat of cross-pollinated techno riddims and no-frills club rippers out the widest scope, Cressida dishes out a fierily potent two-hours of freako disco, locked-and-loaded onto hacking the boring matrix of tepid machine funk that has most subjugated at the minute. Flamethrowin’ the status-quo to ashes.

His story in the Electronic Music Scene in Chemnitz and Leipzig is long.
He startet in the 80 ies.
Distinctive names such a Lait Solaire (Chemnitz), Club Achtermai (Chemnitz) or Chrome Club (Leipzig) are just a clearly to be associated with as the Electric Magazine or Fresh Guide.
His name is currently behind Beatconnect or Ampathy.
In the Past he also had some Releases on Miditonal, Null Records or Pure Rhythm (1/3 owner of the Label).
His Sound is clearly in the Industriel Techno Incorporate, as the set he presented here.

ESOA Podcast 004 Soapespierre present Seyffarth

Cancelore was born in 1981 near by Chemnitz, Germany.
Already at young age, he started listening to his fathers music collection, which was embossed by Jazz and Bossa Nova or got influenced by his mothers love for Harry Belafonte.
This laid the foundation for his deep sense of music, which you can hear down to the present day.
But also Techno, Funk & all that Soul, Hip-Hop and Punk'n'Roll played a big role within his musical development. The year "Homework" was a turning point in his life where he mainly focused on techno and house music and started off producing. DJ-ing followed shortly after that and contributed to improve his skills and knowledge of quality music.
Nowadays you can still find this slight breeze of jazz but also the roots of house music in his music style.
