Long Beach native Candice Antique used to sing Chaka Khan, Mary J. Blige and Whitney Houston songs into a hairbrush.  Fascinated by soul music of the 60s and 70s and jazz of the 30s and 40s, she developed a unique blend of raw soul vocals and retro soul rhythms. Candice Antique began her career in music as the lead singer of beatboxing soul combo Antique Naked Soul featuring renown beatboxer Tommy Soulati Shepherd. The combo has performed with The Roots, Blackalicious, Yasiin Bey fka. Mos Def, Nneka and Talib Kweli. Antique Naked Soul’s music was featured in an AJ+ award winning podcast “Closer than They Appear,” hosted by Carvell Wallace and they have been the house band for W. Kamau Bell’s show “Kamau Right Now” three times. Antique Naked Soul was featured twice on Afropunk, AJ+, KALW and KQED Arts. Candice Antique expanded her reach by touring Africa and the Caribbean as a solo artist. She toured eight countries in 3 years with her musical campaign Nappy, which celebrates the beauty of natural hair while collaborating with local musicians to create culturally relevant music. Out of this process she produced a collaborative mixtape “Lessons from the Road” featuring musicians from 3 countries. She has been featured on national television in Kenya, Ghana and Iran. She was honored for her work as a Woman to Watch by KQED Arts in 2017. 

Candice Antique is currently working on her first solo EP to be released in Spring 2019 and a theatre piece with Antique Naked Soul based on their upcoming album “Diamond & Bullets” to premiere Fall 2019.

Strong Songs. Meaningful Movements. Better Mindsets.  These are the phrases that capture the focus for this new branch on the iconic tree of PE.  Jahi’s task is two-fold.  One is to take select songs from the PE catalog and cover them or reVisit them.
Two is to create new songs over new production and classic PE-Bomb Squad tracks to bring new consciousness, culture and spirit to Hip Hop worldwide.  With original members of Public Enemy like DJ Lord-turntables, Davy DMX on Bass, T-Bone on Drums, and Khari Wynn on guitar, with special guest appearances by Professor Griff and Chuck D, PE 2.0 over the next 5 years will become the new core unit of Public Enemy. 
After a year of preparation, we now present PE 2.0.  The first album is “PEople Get Ready” and features Chuck D, production from Divided Souls, and the original sound that is PE. FANTASTIC NEGRITO

...is the incarnation of a musician who is reborn after going through a lot of awful shit. In fact, the name Fantastic Negrito represents his third rebirth, literally coming back from death this time. The narrative on this man is as important as the sound, because the narrative is the sound. Songs born from a long hard life channeled through black roots music. Slide guitar, drums, piano. Urgent, desperate, edgy. Fantastic Negrito is the story of a man who struggled to “make it”, who “got it”, who lost it all, and somehow managed to find his way back. These are singular songs by a true musician who writes and produces his own work. His songs are his fuel as he continues on the third comeback of his life, at a time when our world is in upheaval.
