My father's hometown is an area with a lot of snow, and I spent some time there in the winter when I was a child.
It was then that I first experienced the feeling of silence when it snowed.

That sense of silence as I walked through the falling snow may have been the catalyst for my current work in ambient music.

This music is dedicated to those snowy, beloved winter nights.

Japanese producer TOMC is releasing his new album Liberty, March 19 on Inner OceanRecords.

In Liberty, he channels influences ranging from many types of "chill out" sound style, including Japanese ambient/new age and jazz hop/lo-fi hiphop such as Yutaka Hirose, Nujabes and Madlib, as well as recent ASMR culture. The lead track Sanity really shows these elements.

“The album contains a lot of chillout elements, but it's actually a sound that will wake you up and arouse curiosity with countless grains of sound,” explains TOMC.

In this album, he reflects on the significance of liberty and the importance of curiosity, keeping in mind the world where COVID-19 has spread, the situation a decade after the nuclear accident in his hometown of Fukushima, and the Japanese society where economic stagnation and generational divergence are remarkable.
The album's distinctive artwork was created by Mina Hirata, a Japanese-style painting (Nihon-ga) artist.
Ahead of the March 19 release, a limited cassette tape release is available for pre-order and a Spotify pre-save campaign for the lead single Sanity has begun.
