The Cape’s summer may see fewer visitors this year amid tariffs and federal cuts. 

Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce CEO Paul Niedzwiecki says bookings are down compared to previous years, with family vacations usually the first to go when inflation and other economic challenges rise. 

He adds that the Cape has also lost many Canadian visitors as trade feuds continue with the US.

AmeriCorps Cape Cod will be funded through the current class year, but its future is still uncertain after recent federal cuts have effectively shut down the program. Program Manager Misty Neimyer said they have a smaller class this year which allows them to pivot, but they are urging residents to contact lawmakers and advocate for funding from Washington.

Travelers will soon ride for free on Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority fixed bus routes. 

RTA Acting Administrator Kathy Jensen says clarified policy language has allowed them to join other RTA’s off Cape in offering free fares. 

The funds for free fairs comes from the recently adopted Fair Share Amendment which increased taxes on luxury real estate sales.
