From Caterina Barbieri's debut album Vertical (Important Records/Cassauna, October 2014) composed for Buchla Synthesizer and vocals.
Vertical is a meditation on primary waveforms and the polyrhythm of harmonics in synthetic sounds, stretching the boundaries between drone, minimalism and techno. Barbieri's minimalist focus arises from the exploration of the stratigraphic potential of voltage-controlled sequencers, in terms of polyrhythm and polyphony. Employing synthesis, psychoacoustics and repetition as key concepts, the italian composer stylizes the dancing of wave cycles in severe geometries of time and space.
All the tracks were played, recorded and produced in Stockholm, at EMS (Electroacoustic Music Studios) and KMH (Royal University of Music) in Summer 2013.

"The idea here was to create a system with many controls over the dynamics of the tune, hence to create an almost random composition. I use this drone as a basis for a tune on my new album.  The idea is Wogglebug Maths and Rene controlling some elements on DPO\Echophone and them selves. so Woggelbug can trigger Maths and fold DPO, i use both oscillators on DPO and they are all sent to Modedemix and optomix. Which are also triggered by Maths\DPO\Wogglebug. Pressure Points is used to actually change the DPO fold option. the 2 track tune was sent to Neunaber wet Reverb. RENE is in snake mode getting X from Maths and Y from Wogglebug."

Simple four track

I sporadically make synthesizer modules, largely using MFOS printed circuit boards, and then mess about in a very un-directed way making a variety of noises with my growing modular synth. I have a number of modules waiting to be completed but so far I'm using three VCOs, three LFOs, a couple of filters, a dual AREG, an ADSR, a dual VCA, an MFOS 10 step sequencer, a noise cornucopia, sample and hold, ring mod, phase shifter, MFOS mini synth and wogglebug. The MFOS Sound Art page ( http://www.musicfromouterspace.com/index.php?MAINTAB=ELECTRONART&VPW=1024&VPH=526 ) has spurred me on to record some of my noises and I'm learning to use Garage Band to broaden the range of strange noises which I can produce. I'm also trying to get to grips with making sounds on the iPad, particularly with the Korg iMS20, Rebirth and Animoog. Recently I've been sucked in to buying and assembling kits from Thonk which is a pleasure, and buying a few rather splendid modules from Make Noise and Mutable Instruments. I enjoy not taking any of my noise making too seriously :-)
