Captain Who?

Captain Groove began accidentally. To begin with it was a jam. Five jazz students who had had enough of playing standards, started to groove on just one long satisfying chord. Someone began to sing and with a nod everyone went with it. The spontaneous and organic vibe that the band had created was unexpected and ground breaking. The success they have enjoyed with their following in the first two years as a grooving unit has been amazing. 

This is a band that has never happened before, combining elements of jazz fusion, funk and disco all tied together with rock. The band lugs a around a Hammond organ and Leslie speaker to achieve a vintage sound.Captain Groove's sound borderlines the 60s and 70s with a new and youthful vibe.

 With moments of Queen, this 5-piece band breaks down into just as many part harmonies. Having all studied jazz music and improvisation (VCA, Monash and NMIT) their style is sophisticated but danceable. Their odd time signatures and less-than-traditional structures are still very friendly. Influences range from The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Queen and Muse to Jeff Beck, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Bryan Scary and Yellowjackets. If you haven't heard of some of these bands, that's kind of the point. Don't worry, you will like this band.

Today Captain Groove continue to write and perform their new age rock grooves to new and approving fans in Brunswick and beyond, and is rapidly growing into a recognisable act with talent around the town. Currently recording their debut album, featuring Hammond organ, saxophone and Queen-like harmonies, this is rock music you could show to your parents. 

Captain Groove have managed to keep their crowds dancing AND listening. If you are into rock, fusion, funk, disco or porn  you will love this band.
