Berlin underground authority Stefan Braatz returns to Nu Groove with a four-track EP showcasing his timeless sound – Outlaw. An established club DJ and producer who has donned many hats in his 30-year career, Stefan Braatz is known for his expansive knowledge that defies genre convention, with his previous Nu Groove collaboration ‘Everyman Jack’ featuring Chicago legends Virgo Four combining his respect for the old school with new school techniques. Opening the EP is the eponymous track ‘Outlaw’, featuring vocals from Chicago house pioneer Harry Dennis – a contemporary of Ron Hardy, the late Frankie Knuckles and a member of Jungle Wonz alongside Marshall Jefferson. As Braatz’s relentless synth energy powers through, Dennis’s unmistakeable free flow guides the composition with ease. What follows are three solo tracks that summarise the Berlin expert’s opposition to the genre restraints; ‘Conversation’ opens a dialogue between synth strings and piano that loops in ecstasy, while ‘Dingy Thoughts’ and ‘One More Dream’ are darker club cuts that bubble with intensity in the lower registers.

Riding on a wave of incredible form, he counts to his name an album on KOMPAKT, a collab with Chicks On Speed on Permanent Vacation, an EP for Helena Hauff’s Return To Disorder label, an album on Bedrock and an outing on Les Yeux Orange with remixes from electro gods DMX Krew and Legowelt. Defining his sound as ‘romantic and burlesque’, he takes his cues from electroclash, ‘80s electro and synth pop and Detroit techno.

Soon after, he met DJ Hell, who was astonished from the beginning with Martin's interest in electronic music, records and mix tapes and invited him to interviews as well as DJ gigs, allowed Martin to secure his first DJ set in 1999. Shortly thereafter, at the turn of the millennium, Martin began producing music. Since 2020, he has released music on some of the industry's most respected labels, including Kompakt, Mobilee, Exploited, Permanent Vacation, Helena Hauff's Return To Disorder, and an album on John Digweed's Bedrock Records. His work has garnered consistent support from top DJs around the world.

A dedicated electronic music enthusiast, Captain Mustache has collaborated with renowned electro icons such as Dave Clarke, Arnaud Rebotini, Chicks on Speed, The Advent, and Keith Tucker from AUX88, adding a unique vocal depth to his productions.

First time on the radio! I recorded the set this Summer and it was live on Couleur 3 on October 17th at 11 pm. Thank you very much to Tournée Générale and Couleur 3 for this opportunity!

Couleur 3 holds a special place for me because we were listening to it back in the days from Lyon with the homies during the crazy teenage years - Couleur 3 since then stopped emitting there. I rediscovered it when moving to Lausanne years later.

Captain Mustache is a French music producer and DJ from Paris.
